Al-Mustaqbal University expands the international partnerships for water and sustainable energy sectors

As part of its action plan to expand and strengthen sustainable international partnerships, Al-Mustaqbal University has participated in the International Conference on Water and Energy WETEX, Dubai Solar Show and the Middle East and North Africa Solar Conference. The events were held at Dubai International Trade Centre for the period from 15-17/11/2023. The President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Prof. Dr. Hasan Shakir Majdi, has made several significant meetings and dialogues with several companies and bodies specialist in the latest modern technologies in the field of water treatment, waste recycling, clean energy projects and innovative solutions in the field of solar energy applications. Through the meetings held by the delegation of the Al-Mustaqbal University, preliminary agreements were reached with some international companies specialized in water treatment technologies and green energy transition to implement research projects on the fields of water and energy in Iraq. One of the big sustainable projects was the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, implemented by Dubai Energy and Water Agency (DEWA), is the world s largest single-site solar park under the Independent Producer (IPP) system, with a production capacity of 5,000 MW by 2030 and a total investment of AED 50 billion. Upon completion, the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park will contribute to reducing more than 6.5 million tonnes of carbon emissions annually. The capacity of the solar projects that have been commissioned in the park is 2,627 MW using solar photovoltaic and concentrated solar power (CSP) panels, while the total capacity of projects under construction in the park is 433 MW of concentrated solar power. DEWA has increased the share of clean energy in Dubai s energy mix to around 16% of its total production capacity of 16,270 MW of electricity. The park supports the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and Dubai Carbon Neutrality Strategy 2050 to provide 100% of energy production capacity from clean energy sources by 2050.
