Achieving sustainability in the aviation sector has become an important challenge due to the increasing number of flights and the associated fuel consumption and emissions that affect the environment and climate. Therefore, the aviation industry is developing innovative solutions and technologies to reduce its environmental impact while maintaining the efficiency and safety of air transportation. Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) is one of the most promising solutions. It can be produced from various sources and materials and can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions compared with conventional aviation fuel. The world is also witnessing significant developments in electric and hybrid aircraft technologies, particularly for short-distance flights, alongside advanced research into the potential use of hydrogen as an energy source for future aircraft. Sustainability in aviation is not limited to the type of fuel used. It also includes designing lighter and more efficient aircraft, improving engines and aerodynamics, and optimizing flight routes to reduce energy consumption. Airports can also contribute to this transformation by using renewable energy, electric ground equipment, and more efficient technologies for resource consumption. Achieving more environmentally friendly aviation is becoming an increasingly realistic goal, supported by advances in sustainable fuels, electric power, hydrogen, and aircraft design technologies. With continued research and development, the aviation industry can achieve a better balance between the growth of air transportation and environmental protection, supporting the global transition toward a more sustainable future.
