Al-Mustaqbal University and Al-Azhar University in Egypt held an online partnership forum to explore Erasmus+ opportunities, international academic cooperation, and strategies to enhance graduate employability and professional development. Held under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Hasan Shakir Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, and Prof. Dr. Mahmoud Seddiq, President of Al-Azhar University, and supervised by Prof. Dr. Mudhaffar Sadeq Al-Zuhairy, Director of Scientific and Academic Supervision at Al-Mustaqbal University, the forum featured contributions from Prof. Dr. Mohamed Mansour Saad Farag, Director of International Relations and Research Projects at Al-Azhar University; Prof. Dr. Samir Badrawi, Director of International Relations at Al-Mustaqbal University; and Prof. Dr. Iman Abdul Aziz, Director of the Rehabilitation, Employment and Follow-up Division at Al-Mustaqbal University, who moderated the discussion. As part of its efforts to strengthen its international presence and expand academic partnerships, Al-Mustaqbal University participated in an international virtual workshop organized by the Eurasian Universities Union (EURAS). The workshop was attended by Prof. Dr. Mustafa Aydın, President of Istanbul Aydın University and President of EURAS, alongside numerous university presidents, experts, and academics from various higher education institutions. Representing Al-Mustaqbal University on behalf of its President, Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, Prof. Dr. Mudhaffar Sadiq Al-Zuhairy, Director of Scientific and Academic Supervision, delivered an intervention highlighting the University’s key initiatives in higher education internationalization, including expanding international academic partnerships, strengthening research collaboration, and fostering engagement with global educational institutions. Al-Zuhairy also addressed key challenges facing internationalization from the University’s perspective, emphasizing the importance of exchanging international expertise and best practices and developing collaborative mechanisms to enhance educational quality, research excellence, and universities’ global presence. Baghdad | 29 October 2026 Al-Mustaqbal University continued its active participation on the second and final day of the third Iraq Education Conference, hosted by the University of Baghdad under the theme “From Education to Development: Global Partnerships and Universities Shaping the Future.” The University’s delegation was led by Prof. Dr. Hasan Shakir Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, accompanied by Prof. Dr. Mohsen Al-Furaiji, Advisor to the University; Prof. Dr. Mudhaffar Sadeq Al-Zuhairy, Director of Scientific and Academic Supervision; Asst. Prof. Dr. Ali Shakir Majdi, Dean of the College of Engineering; and a number of academic and administrative staff. On the sidelines of the conference, the delegation held productive meetings with representatives of the University of Colorado, the University of California, Davis (UC Davis), and OHLA Language Institute. A separate meeting was also held with the Cultural Affairs Advisor at the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad to explore further opportunities for academic partnerships, scientific exchange, and collaboration with Al-Mustaqbal University. The second day also featured a dialogue session chaired by Prof. Dr. Haider Abd Dhahad, Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research for Scientific Affairs, with the participation of Prof. Dr. Haider Bahaa Al-Husseini, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Dr. Qutaiba Ghazi, Minister of Planning. Discussions focused on strengthening university autonomy, advancing teaching and research environments, and promoting the concept of the productive university. The speakers also emphasised aligning admission policies and academic outcomes with labour market demands and Iraq’s development priorities, alongside reviewing required specialisations and the strategic and geographical distribution of universities. In line with the vision and directives of Al-Mustaqbal University President, Prof. Dr. Hasan Shakir Majdi, to expand international partnerships and strengthen the University’s global academic and research presence, Al-Mustaqbal University held a consultative meeting with the University of California, Davis (UC Davis) to explore opportunities for academic and scientific cooperation and develop joint initiatives and programs that promote knowledge exchange and capacity building, particularly in agriculture and sustainable development. The Al-Mustaqbal University delegation was headed by Prof. Dr. Mudhaffar Sadeq Al-Zuhairy, Director of Scientific and Academic Supervision, accompanied by Dr. Tahani Jawad of the College of Agricultural Technologies and Ms. Elaf Salah Mahdi. Al-Mustaqbal University, represented by its President, Professor Dr Hasan Shakir Majdi, participated in the opening of the third edition of the Iraq Education Conference, which commenced on Wednesday, 28 October 2026, under the patronage and in the presence of His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Professor Dr Haider Bahaa Al-Hassani. The conference was held under the theme: “From Education to Development: Global Partnerships and Universities Shaping the Future.” The opening ceremony brought together a distinguished gathering of dignitaries, including the Chair and members of the Parliamentary Committee on Education, the Head of the Advisory Board, several ministers and senior officials, as well as prominent academic leaders, experts, specialists, and national and international scientific figures. In his opening address, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research emphasised that the conference serves as a key platform for exchanging expertise, expanding institutional cooperation, and establishing strategic partnerships aimed at advancing higher education and strengthening the position of Iraqi universities within regional and international academic communities. He further explained that the Ministry’s vision centres on promoting the concept of the “productive university” by supporting applied scientific research, encouraging innovation and entrepreneurship, strengthening partnerships with the public and private sectors, and developing technology incubators. These efforts aim to align educational outcomes with labour market needs and the requirements of sustainable development. The opening ceremony also featured keynote addresses by Professor Jim Burkee, President of Saint Leo University in the United States, and Dr Salman Al-Rawaf, Director of the World Health Organization Collaborating Centre with Imperial College London. On the sidelines of the conference, the Minister inaugurated the Iraqi Higher Education Exhibition, which brought together a wide range of Iraqi, Arab, and international universities. The exhibition aims to explore opportunities for academic cooperation, facilitate the exchange of expertise, and expand institutional and scientific partnerships. Under the patronage of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and on the sidelines of the third edition of the Iraq Education Conference, the Ministry, in cooperation with the global analytics and research intelligence company Clarivate, held three specialized workshops from 25 to 27 October 2026 at Al-Naji University. Dr. Samir Badrawi, Director of the Cultural Relations Department at Al-Mustaqbal University, participated in the specialized workshop entitled “From Research Papers to Patents: An Innovation Roadmap for Universities.” The workshop aimed to foster an innovation-oriented mindset and establish a clear pathway for transforming scientific research outputs into patentable and commercially viable outcomes. This topic is of strategic importance in an increasingly competitive environment, as it focuses on developing innovative thinking, from idea generation to identifying the criteria that shape patentable research outcomes, and ultimately establishing a roadmap for the commercialization of intellectual property. As part of its ongoing efforts to expand academic cooperation and strengthen partnerships among Iraqi universities, Al-Mustaqbal University has signed a joint scientific and academic cooperation agreement with Erbil Polytechnic University. The agreement aims to strengthen institutional ties, exchange expertise, and expand collaboration in education and research. The agreement was signed by Prof. Dr. Idris Mohammed Tahir, President of Erbil Polytechnic University, and Prof. Dr. Mudhaffar Sadeq Al-Zuhairy, Director of Scientific and Academic Supervision at Al-Mustaqbal University, representing the University President, Prof. Dr. Hasan Shakir Majdi. Both sides agreed to launch joint student-focused initiatives and organize joint scientific conferences and academic events to promote engagement among faculty and students, facilitate knowledge and expertise exchange, and enhance the educational and research environments at both universities. The agreement was signed during a delegation visit by Al-Mustaqbal University, comprising Prof. Dr. Mudhaffar Sadeq Al-Zuhairy and Prof. Dr. Tareq Jawad Kadhim, Director of the Scientific Affairs Department, to several universities , including Northern Technical University, Tishk International University, Cihan University–Erbil, and Erbil Polytechnic University.
