Fruits of Higher Education Internationalization: Graduation of the First Master’s Cohort in the Twinning Program between Al-Mustaqbal University and Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) A Statement by the Deputy Minister for Scientific Research Affairs, Prof. Dr. Haider Abd Dhahad Within the framework of the strategic transformation adopted by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research since 2023, aimed at moving beyond traditional educational models, the Ministry has launched several qualitative initiatives to internationalize higher education in Iraqi universities and enhance their openness to global academic institutions. A cornerstone of these initiatives was the launch of International Twinning Programs (Offshore Programs). These programs enable Iraqi students to obtain degrees from prestigious international universities while remaining in Iraq, adhering to internationally accredited academic standards. Today, we witness the first major success of these efforts with the graduation of the inaugural cohort of postgraduate students (Master’s) in Electronics Engineering. This is a result of the twinning program between Al-Mustaqbal University and Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM)—a qualitative achievement that reflects the success of the Ministry’s vision in developing the higher education system in Iraq. This milestone reinforces the importance of expanding twinning programs and international partnerships. Such collaborations are essential for elevating the quality of education, enhancing the global competitiveness of our graduates, and aligning Iraqi universities with world-class academic benchmarks. With Appreciation, Prof. Dr. Haider Abd Dhahad Deputy Minister of Higher Education for Scientific Research Affairs

These programs aim to bridge the gap between academic theory and practical application according to local and international market needs. The training programs include: Professionalism in Solar Energy Systems (Theory + Advanced Practical Application). Solar Systems Design using (PVsyst) software. Basics of SolidWorks for engineering design. Basics of MATLAB for engineering analysis and modeling. Basics of AutoCAD for engineering drawing. Participants will receive an authorized certificate of participation from the center. We invite students, graduates, and external applicants to register via the attached electronic link
The second day of the training program for Al-Mustaqbal University students at Alanya Alaaddin Keykubat University (ALKU) witnessed a vibrant schedule of scientific, cultural, and recreational activities. The program aims to provide students with exposure to an international academic environment and to enhance their personal and professional skills. The day began with a visit to the central library, where students left their personal mark by writing their impressions and memories on the cultural exchange board. The delegation also participated in a joint art activity with their peers from Alanya University, reflecting a spirit of cooperation and friendship between the two institutions. Sustainability and Social Responsibility In a gesture reflecting environmental awareness, the students visited the university’s food recycling unit, which is dedicated to converting surplus meals into food for pets. The delegation learned about the mechanisms of this project, which aligns with sustainable development goals and promotes environmental conservation and responsible resource use. The program also included: * A visit to the central club to explore student activities and the cultural diversity within the university. * A visit to the National Youth Center, where students attended an introductory lecture on leadership development programs, talent nurturing, and the role of national centers in supporting creative youth. Participating students noted: “This experience represents a qualitative leap in our academic journey, combining academic knowledge with deep human exchange.” The day concluded with a recreational tour of Alanya’s أبرز historical landmarks, most notably Alanya Castle. Students enjoyed the beauty of its historic architecture and panoramic views, creating a joyful atmosphere before returning to continue the training program in the coming days. This visit comes as part of Al-Mustaqbal University’s vision to promote global openness and provide its students with the best international training opportunities in cooperation with leading universities worldwide.
In a new scientific achievement added to the record of the Engineering Technical College and AlMustaqbal Center for Energy Research, Prof. Dr. Salwan Obeid Waheed, Director of AlMustaqbal Center for Energy Research, has been selected as an international reviewer within the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE), USA. This selection was based on a nomination submitted by the Scientific Affairs Division of the College to the respected Dean at the beginning of the current academic year, in recognition of his distinguished academic and research expertise in the fields of energy and sustainability. Prof. Dr. Waheed will contribute to evaluating a number of case studies alongside a distinguished group of academics from leading international universities, including Rutgers University, the University of California, and Johns Hopkins University, among other American institutions. This achievement represents an important step reflecting the growing international presence of the academic staff of the Engineering Technical College and AlMustaqbal Center for Energy Research. It also contributes to strengthening the position of AlMustaqbal University in the fields of scientific research and sustainability
