The President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, has been selected as a keynote speaker at the THE Arab Universities Summit 2026, organized by Times Higher Education (THE) in partnership with Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) in Benguerir, Kingdom of Morocco, from November 3 to 5, 2026. Representing Iraq and Al-Mustaqbal University at this prestigious regional and international academic gathering, Dr. Majdi will feature in a high-level panel discussion titled: "The role of universities in accelerating the clean energy transition", scheduled for Wednesday, November 4, 2026, in the "Ibn Rushd" Hall. The session will foster a strategic dialogue alongside a distinguished group of academic experts and decision-makers, including Dr. Tadgh O'Donovan, Chief Scientist at Heriot-Watt University Dubai, and will be moderated by Ms. Maya Haddad, Senior Sustainability Director at Ajman University. Discussions will center on the pivotal role of academic and research institutions in fostering sustainable development, innovating renewable energy solutions, and driving environmental transformation across the Arab region. Furthermore, the University President will participate in the closed Presidents' Roundtable to address alignment between higher education outcomes and labor market demands amidst environmental challenges and resource constraints. This selection underscores the prominent academic standing Al-Mustaqbal University has achieved in global rankings, as well as its active contribution to sustainable development and clean energy initiatives regionally and internationally.
The Dean of the Engineering Technical College at Al-Mustaqbal University, Prof. Dr. Azhar Mohsen Abd, participated in the 4th International Scientific Conference on Modern Technologies in Oil and Gas Industries. The event was held in partnership with the Chemical Engineering Department at the University of Technology and Mid-Refineries Company (MRC). The delegation from Al-Mustaqbal University, led by deans and department heads, actively participated in the conference, presenting the latest scientific research and advancements in oil industries and sustainable energy. In recognition of his distinguished leadership and academic contributions to the success of the conference, Prof. Dr. Azhar Mohsen Abd was awarded the Excellence Shield. Additionally, Al-Mustaqbal University and its delegation were honored with shields and certificates of appreciation for their dedication to advancing scientific research and technological innovation.
The President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, participated in a specialized workshop organized by the Higher Education and Scientific Research Committee in the Iraqi Parliament. The session was dedicated to discussing the proposed new Private Higher Education Law, with the attendance of committee members, presidents of public and private universities, as well as representatives of relevant academic unions and associations. During the workshop, Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi presented a working paper containing key diagnostic observations and constructive feedback on several articles and clauses of the draft law. In a special statement to Al-Mustaqbal University Media, the University President expressed his sincere gratitude and appreciation to the Chairman and members of the Parliamentary Higher Education Committee for their significant efforts in clarifying and refining legislation. He emphasized the importance of finalizing this critical law to enhance academic rigor, support the quality of educational outcomes, and achieve effective integration between public and private higher education sectors in Iraq

In line with comprehensive preparations for the start of the new academic year and to ensure academic, logistical, and research readiness, the Dean of the Engineering Technical College held an extensive meeting with the faculty and administrative staff of the departments of (Power Mechanics Engineering Technology, Fuel and Energy Engineering Technology, and Aeronautical Engineering Technology), alongside meeting with the staff of the ALmustaqbal Energy Research Center. The Dean began the meeting with a warm welcoming address, expressing his appreciation for the dedicated efforts of the academic, administrative, and research staff, and wishing everyone a successful and distinguished academic year. The meeting featured a detailed review of the scientific, academic, and research plans prepared by the respective departments and the research center. Discussions focused on mechanisms to enhance the learning and research environment, as well as updating curricula to keep pace with the latest technological and engineering developments. During his speech, the Dean highlighted several key objectives: Advancing Education, Curricula, and Research: Focusing on enhancing technical education quality, applied research, updating scientific content, and practical training. Coinciding with World Cleanup Day, the Sustainable Development Division at Al-Mustaqbal University carried out a volunteer campaign to clean the university campus. This environmental initiative aimed to enhance awareness of the importance of cleanliness and establish a culture of shared responsibility in preserving the university environment and maintaining its facilities. The campaign witnessed active attendance and participation from the College of Agricultural Technologies, represented by the Dean, alongside several faculty members and staff. Additionally, the Vice Deans of the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences participated directly in field cleanup activities, landscaping green areas, and maintaining campus facilities, embodying the spirit of teamwork and institutional leadership. Through field guidance, participants emphasized that environmental cleanliness is not merely an activity tied to a specific occasion, but a daily behavior and a civilized culture that begins with the individual and extends to society as a whole. They highlighted that maintaining the campus is a joint responsibility that contributes to providing a healthy, safe, and stimulating educational environment for innovation and excellence. This initiative falls within Al-Mustaqbal University’s efforts to support environmental sustainability and translate its concepts into practical field actions. This aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 3: "Good Health and Well-being," Goal 11: "Sustainable Cities and Communities," Goal 12: "Responsible Consumption and Production," and Goal 15: "Life on Land." As part of the university’s commitment to nurturing student talent and following up on international training outcomes, Prof. Dr. Hasan Shakir Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, met with the student delegation participating in the international training program following their successful completion of the academic and cultural program hosted by the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol) in the United Kingdom. For his part, Prof. Dr. Mudhaffar Sadiq Al-Zuhairi, Director of Scientific and Academic Supervision, stated that this program represents the fruitful outcome of the university presidency's continuous efforts to turn international cooperation opportunities into tangible educational experiences. He explained that this program marks the first experience of its kind in cooperation with British universities, coming as part of a series of international initiatives conducted with universities in the UK, Egypt, and Turkey to advance the internationalisation of higher education. Glasgow, UK – Professor Dr. Hasan Shakir Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, participated in the IAU-EAIE Internationalisation Leadership Dialogue, held at The Sir Jim McDonald Technology and Innovation Centre, University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, United Kingdom, on September 8, 2026. The event focused on discussing internationalisation strategies and higher education dynamics amidst current global challenges, serving as a platform for exchanging strategic expertise among university leaders and higher education executives worldwide. This high-level participation came following an invitation from the International Association of Universities (IAU) and the European Association for International Education (EAIE), aiming to foster international academic collaboration and strengthen strategic partnerships across global higher education institutions. The dialogue opened with welcoming remarks from the host, the University of Strathclyde, followed by addresses from Dr. Hiligje van't Land, Secretary General of the IAU, and Mr. Mervin Bakker, Executive Director of the EAIE. The keynote address, titled "Leading Internationalisation in Turbulent Times," was delivered by Sir Anton Muscatelli, President of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. He presented advanced strategic frameworks, including: The VUCA Prime Leadership Model: Managing higher education institutions through volatile times by leveraging Vision, Understanding, Clarity, and Agility. Sustainable Partnership Models: Effective strategies for building equitable, long-term institutional collaborations. During the event, Prof. Dr. Hasan Shakir Majdi actively engaged in interactive roundtable discussions exploring the future of global partnerships, criteria for partner selection, joint degree programs, collaborative research, and the operationalisation of reciprocity. Conversations also tackled re-imagining internationalisation through curriculum design, the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in learning and mobility, and virtual exchanges as modern, sustainable solutions. On the sidelines of the dialogue, the President of Al-Mustaqbal University met with Dr. Hilligje van't Land, Secretary General of the IAU.
