Prof. Dr. Mehdi Ebady Manaa, Head of the Smart Medical Systems Department at the College of Science, Al-Mustaqbal University, contributed to a joint research paper with Dr. Aeizaal Azman Abdul Wahab of Universiti Sains Malaysia and postgraduate student Mustafa Ghassan Khalif, entitled:
“An Intelligent Intrusion Detection Framework for Smart Campus IoT Networks Using Apache Spark and Machine Learning”
The research developed an intelligent framework for detecting intrusions and cyber threats in Internet of Things networks within smart campus environments. Using Apache Spark and machine learning algorithms, the framework aims to strengthen network security, support efficient data analysis, and enable the early detection of suspicious activities, thereby contributing to the protection of digital infrastructure.
This work emerged from Iraqi–Malaysian research collaboration. Prof. Dr. Mahdi Abadi Manaa provided scientific supervision and led the research and technical aspects related to artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and big data analytics, in collaboration with Dr. Aeizaal Azman Abdul Wahab and with the participation of postgraduate student Mustafa Ghassan Khalif.
The paper was presented at the Fourth International Conference on Emerging Trends in AI and Computational Technologies (ICONEST 2026), held at Universitas PGRI Ronggolawe (UNIROW), Indonesia, on October 28–29, 2026. Mustafa Ghassan Khalif received a Certificate of Participation with Honors in recognition of his academic contribution.
This achievement reflects the importance of international research collaboration in developing innovative solutions to digital challenges. It also aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 4: Quality Education; Goal 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure; and Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
Al-Mustaqbal University is the first one university in Iraq.
