As part of efforts to raise awareness of the rapid developments in artificial intelligence technologies and their various applications, the staff of the Department of Intelligent Medical Systems at the College of Science, Al-Mustaqbal University, attended an awareness-raising scientific seminar organized by the Department of Artificial Intelligence Sciences entitled "When Images Lie: Deepfakes Between Creativity and Misinformation." The seminar was held on Monday, October 26, 2026, at the Student Activities Hall in the Medical Technical Building, and was delivered by Prof. Dr. Abdul-Kadhim Abdul-Kareem Al-Duray'i, Head of the Department of Artificial Intelligence Sciences. The seminar addressed the concept of deepfakes and their major applications, including face swapping, voice cloning, and the artificial generation of images and video clips using artificial intelligence technologies. It also featured live practical demonstrations illustrating how these technologies work, as well as methods for verifying digital content and detecting manipulation. The seminar also highlighted the security and social risks associated with the misuse of deepfake technologies, including electronic fraud, cyber extortion, and media misinformation. In addition, it presented methods of protection, techniques for verifying information sources, and procedures for reporting cybercrimes. The participation of the department's staff reflects their commitment to keeping abreast of scientific and technological developments and enhancing their knowledge of artificial intelligence applications and their potential risks. This contributes to developing digital skills and promoting a culture of safe and responsible technology use, in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, and SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions. Al-Mustaqbal University is the first one university in Iraq.
