The Department of Medical Physics at the College of Science, Almustaqbal University, held a discussion session on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, entitled “The Role of Physical Sciences in Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals,” under the supervision of Asst. Lect. Ali Jaafar. The session aimed to highlight the importance of physical sciences and their applications in supporting sustainable development and addressing environmental, health, and technological challenges.
The session was attended by the Head of the Medical Physics Department, Prof. Dr. Anis Ali, and the Department Rapporteur, Asst. Lect. Sakeena Talib, along with a group of faculty members from the Medical Physics Department, including Dr. Kareem Hindool, Dr. Doaa Jaafar, Asst. Lect. Fatima Makki, Asst. Lect. Ali Salman, and Asst. Lect. Tahreer Kadhim.
The session addressed the significant role of physical sciences in developing modern technologies and providing scientific solutions that contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in the fields of renewable energy, healthcare, medical physics, environmental protection, efficient use of resources, and the development of sustainable technologies.
The participants also discussed the contributions of physics to the development of medical diagnostic and treatment technologies, improving energy efficiency, utilizing clean and renewable energy sources, and employing modern physical measurements, instruments, and technologies to monitor environmental phenomena and support solutions that reduce negative impacts on the environment and society.
The session featured scientific discussions on the importance of utilizing physical knowledge to serve society, promoting scientific research and innovation, and connecting scientific applications with contemporary challenges. These efforts contribute to developing sustainable solutions and achieving a balance between scientific progress, environmental protection, and the responsible use of natural resources.
This session was organized as part of the scientific and awareness activities conducted by the Department of Medical Physics at the College of Science. It emphasized the important role of academic institutions in promoting a culture of sustainable development and encouraging students and researchers to employ physical sciences in serving society. The session particularly supports SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy, SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, and SDG 13: Climate Action.
