The Department of Medical Physics at the College of Science, Almustaqbal University, organized an online scientific awareness workshop on combating drug abuse. Presented by faculty member Fatima Makki Shalan Darwish via Google Meet, the workshop aimed to raise awareness of the risks of drug use and its effects on individuals and society. The workshop covered the definition and types of drugs and their effects on the nervous system and behavior. It reviewed the physical, psychological, and social consequences of drug abuse, its impact on family relationships and academic and professional life, as well as its legal implications. It also highlighted prevention methods, the role of families and educational institutions in awareness and guidance, and the importance of engaging in constructive leisure activities and developing the ability to resist peer pressure. The workshop further addressed ways to support people experiencing addiction through calm dialogue, psychological support, and encouragement to seek treatment at specialized centers. This workshop forms part of the Department of Medical Physics’ efforts to promote community awareness and strengthen the university’s role in addressing issues affecting young people’s health and future.
