Green hospitals represent an advanced model for managing healthcare institutions, as they integrate sustainable environmental practices into various stages of operations, from building design and construction to the management of daily services and activities. This approach aims to reduce the environmental impact of the healthcare sector while improving the quality of medical services, enhancing resource efficiency, and reducing long-term operational costs. The management of green hospitals is based on a set of principles that contribute to greater efficiency and sustainability. These include the use of environmentally friendly construction materials and the design of facilities according to standards that promote energy conservation, along with the adoption of modern lighting, heating, cooling, and ventilation systems. Efficient water and waste management is also a fundamental component of this model through reducing waste, segregating medical waste, recycling reusable materials, and ensuring the safe disposal of waste in accordance with approved environmental and health standards. Modern technologies play an important role in supporting the transition toward green hospitals, particularly through the adoption of electronic medical records and digital systems for managing health information. These technologies reduce reliance on paper while improving data organization, patient follow-up, and the efficiency of administrative and medical procedures. Smart control systems can also be used to monitor water and energy consumption and analyze usage patterns, helping healthcare institutions make more accurate decisions regarding resource management. Renewable energy, particularly solar energy, is an important solution for reducing dependence on conventional energy sources and lowering the carbon emissions of healthcare institutions. Artificial intelligence technologies can also be utilized to analyze resource consumption data and predict actual requirements for energy, water, medical equipment, and supplies. This contributes to reducing waste, improving operational efficiency, and strengthening future planning. The benefits of green hospitals extend beyond environmental and economic aspects to include the creation of a healthier environment for patients and healthcare professionals. This can be achieved by improving air quality and ventilation, maximizing the use of natural lighting, and designing indoor and outdoor spaces that promote psychological well-being and comfort. In this way, sustainability becomes an integral part of the identity and institutional culture of healthcare organizations, contributing to the development of more efficient and resilient hospitals capable of providing safe and sustainable healthcare for present and future generations.
