Introduction The rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies has brought about fundamental changes across various fields, particularly in the area of intellectual property protection. These technologies have contributed to the development of methods for detecting copyright and related rights infringements, combating counterfeiting and forgery, and monitoring the unauthorized use of digital works. At the same time, they have introduced new legal challenges concerning the use of protected works in training intelligent systems and determining liability for infringements committed through these technologies. First: The Concept and Importance of Intellectual Property Intellectual property refers to a set of legal rights that protect human creativity and innovation. It includes copyright, patents, trademarks, and industrial designs. These rights aim to safeguard the moral and economic interests of creators and innovators, encourage creativity and innovation, and maintain a balance between individual interests and the public interest. The protection of intellectual property has become increasingly important in the digital environment due to the ease with which content can be copied, distributed, and reproduced without the owner's permission. This situation highlights the need to develop effective methods for detecting and preventing infringements. Second: The Role of Artificial Intelligence in Intellectual Property Protection Artificial intelligence contributes to strengthening intellectual property protection through several applications, the most prominent of which include: Plagiarism Detection: Text-analysis algorithms can compare different works and identify potential similarities, helping detect plagiarism and unauthorized copying. Combating Counterfeiting and Forgery: AI can analyze images and digital data to identify products bearing counterfeit or fraudulent trademarks, supporting the efforts of relevant authorities to protect rights holders. Digital Content Monitoring: AI systems can monitor the unauthorized use of images, music, videos, and other copyrighted works published on online platforms, helping identify potential infringements. Intellectual Property Rights Management: AI can organize databases containing information about creative works, trademarks, and patents, facilitating searches for registered rights and the monitoring of their use. Supporting Legal Procedures: AI can assist relevant authorities in analyzing digital evidence, classifying complaints, and identifying recurring patterns of infringement. However, its findings must be subject to human verification and legal assessment. Third: Legal Challenges of Using Artificial Intelligence Despite the benefits offered by artificial intelligence, its use raises several legal issues. These include determining liability for damages resulting from AI-generated outputs, establishing whether and under what conditions copyrighted works may be used to train AI systems, and identifying the sources of certain AI-generated content. Another significant issue concerns determining ownership of AI-generated outputs and whether such outputs meet the legal requirements for intellectual property protection. Furthermore, automated detection systems may produce errors, potentially leading to individuals being accused of infringement without sufficient evidence. Therefore, AI-generated findings should not be considered conclusive evidence on their own. Instead, they must be evaluated in accordance with applicable legal and procedural rules. Fourth: Measures to Strengthen Legal Protection Strengthening intellectual property protection in the age of artificial intelligence requires updating legislation to keep pace with technological developments, establishing clear rules governing the use of copyrighted works in AI training, and defining legal liability for infringements. It is also essential to encourage cooperation between judicial and technological institutions, develop tools for verifying digital content, and raise legal awareness regarding copyright and innovation rights. Achieving a balance between protecting rights holders, encouraging innovation, and enabling the lawful use of information is essential to ensuring that modern technologies can be used effectively without compromising the legal rights of individuals and institutions. Conclusion Artificial intelligence represents an important tool for improving intellectual property protection mechanisms through infringement detection, digital evidence analysis, and content monitoring. However, the effectiveness of these technologies depends on the existence of a clear legal framework and appropriate human oversight. Consequently, addressing intellectual property infringements requires the integration of modern legislation with technological solutions to ensure the protection of rights and strengthen trust in the digital environment.
