Professor Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, participated in the UNIMED General Assembly 2026, hosted by the University of Barcelona in Spain on October 7–8, 2026, with the broad participation of presidents and representatives of universities and academic and educational institutions from the Mediterranean and European countries.
The General Assembly coincided with the celebration of the 35th anniversary of the establishment of the Euro-Mediterranean Universities Union (UNIMED). The event addressed a range of strategic issues related to the development of higher education and scientific research and the strengthening of international academic cooperation.
The meetings focused on the Union’s strategic priorities and action plan, particularly Higher Education Governance, Digital Education, Intercultural Dialogue, Employability and Graduate Skills Development, Higher Education in Emergencies and Fragile Contexts, and Sustainable Development. These priorities aim to enhance the performance of academic institutions and strengthen their ability to respond to global developments and labor-market needs.
The General Assembly also included specialized sessions on the vision and proposals of the Erasmus+ Program (2028–2034) and mechanisms for enhancing academic mobility for students and teaching staff. Discussions also covered capacity-building programs, international partnerships, Master’s scholarships, and Jean Monnet Actions supported by the European Union.
Al-Mustaqbal University’s participation in these international activities reflects its commitment to expanding its academic partnership network and strengthening its presence in international higher education programs, particularly in the areas of academic mobility, knowledge exchange, capacity building, and scientific research.
During his participation, Professor Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi affirmed Al-Mustaqbal University’s commitment to actively engaging in international partnerships and benefiting from global academic experiences and best practices. He emphasized that such engagement contributes to expanding opportunities for academic cooperation and exchange while supporting the University’s efforts to advance education and scientific research in accordance with international standards.
