College of Science at Al-Mustaqbal University Organizes Scientific Seminar for International Geodiversity Day

The College of Science at Al-Mustaqbal University organized a scientific seminar on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, in celebration of International Geodiversity Day, as part of the University's commitment to marking international scientific occasions and promoting greater awareness of Earth sciences and their role in serving society and supporting sustainable development. The seminar brought together a distinguished group of academics and specialists who delivered scientific lectures addressing various aspects of geodiversity and its scientific, environmental, and economic significance. The event featured Prof. Dr. Jawad Kadhim Manea and Prof. Dr. Jaafar Hussein Ali from the Department of Applied Geology, College of Science, University of Babylon, along with Assist. Prof. Dr. Mohammed Latif Hussein from the Department of Medical Physics, College of Science, Al-Mustaqbal University. The seminar highlighted geodiversity as a fundamental component of the natural environment and emphasized its vital role in supporting human life, scientific activities, economic development, and the sustainability of natural resources and ecosystems. The lectures also addressed the importance of raising public awareness about the need to preserve unique geological sites and features and protect them from risks and pressures resulting from human activities. Such efforts contribute to safeguarding geological heritage and ensuring its preservation for future generations. International Geodiversity Day, observed annually on October 6, aims to highlight the scientific, environmental, cultural, and economic value of geodiversity, promote awareness of its importance, and encourage international and scientific cooperation in the management, conservation, and protection of geological sites.
