With the participation of representatives from public and private universities in the Middle Euphrates region, Al-Mustaqbal University concluded a specialized training workshop on Erasmus+ programs and grants. The event was organized by the European Union Delegation to Iraq in collaboration with the Department of International and Arab Organizations at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and was attended by the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Prof. Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi. The workshop concluded on its third and final day with a series of specialized training and discussion sessions. These sessions addressed opportunities to benefit from Erasmus+ programs and application procedures—specifically highlighting Erasmus Mundus opportunities available to students and faculty, as well as application requirements. Discussions also covered mechanisms for building academic partnerships and developing joint master's program proposals, aiming to expand international academic cooperation and foster joint educational programs. Furthermore, the sessions examined the role of universities in raising awareness about Erasmus+ opportunities and supporting students and researchers in preparing applications. Participants also discussed key challenges facing Iraqi higher education institutions regarding participation in these programs and reviewed practical steps to enhance institutional readiness and the capacity to develop competitive international projects and proposals. While attending part of the workshop proceedings on its final day, the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Prof. Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi, emphasized the importance of moving beyond merely introducing Erasmus+ programs to actively leveraging available opportunities to build viable international partnerships and projects. He highlighted the significance of utilizing training outcomes to enhance the capabilities of Iraqi universities and strengthen their participation in European academic and research cooperation programs. The three-day workshop featured a series of training sessions and panel discussions covering various topics, including institutional capacity building, international project development, International Credit Mobility (ICM) and student exchange programs, as well as the administrative and financial aspects of European projects and application procedures for Jean Monnet grants. Al-Mustaqbal University’s hosting of this workshop aligns with its strategic drive to internationalize higher education and expand its network of global academic partnerships.
