Wearable medical devices have become among the modern technologies contributing to the transformation of patient monitoring and healthcare delivery. They have enabled a shift from healthcare monitoring primarily conducted within hospitals and clinics toward continuous monitoring that can take place in the patient’s everyday environment. These technologies include smartwatches and smart bands, biosensors, and internet-connected monitoring devices that continuously track a range of vital indicators, such as heart rate, blood oxygen levels, sleep patterns, physical activity, as well as certain indicators related to blood glucose levels in patients with diabetes. The importance of these devices lies in their ability to continuously collect health data and transmit it to intelligent medical systems, enabling healthcare professionals to monitor changes in a patient’s condition and benefit from early alerts when abnormal indicators emerge. This development represents a shift from care based primarily on periodic medical visits toward a more proactive model centered on continuous monitoring and early intervention when necessary. Wearable devices also contribute to improving patients’ quality of life by providing tools that help them monitor their health more regularly. They may also help reduce some unnecessary medical visits and improve the utilization of healthcare resources. When the data generated by these devices are integrated with data analytics and artificial intelligence technologies, important health patterns can be identified, risks can be predicted, and information can be provided to support physicians in developing care plans that are better suited to each patient’s individual needs. With the continuous advancement of sensing, communication, and data analytics technologies, the role of wearable medical devices within modern healthcare systems is expected to grow. They are becoming important tools supporting preventive and personalized medicine, while strengthening the concept of patient-centered healthcare through continuous monitoring, early response, and data-driven medical decision-making.
