This article addresses the concept of psychological immaturity as a condition linked to deficits in emotional and social development, affecting an individual's ability to cope in a balanced manner with the demands of daily life and psychological stressors. It clarifies that psychological immaturity is not measured by chronological age; rather, it is associated with the level of self-awareness, the ability to regulate emotions and control behavior, the capacity to assume responsibility, and the ability to adapt to various situations.
The article notes that psychological immaturity manifests through a set of behavioral and cognitive patterns that can negatively impact social relationships and quality of life. Key indicators include hypersensitivity to criticism, low psychological resilience, difficulty accepting feedback or differing viewpoints, and a limited capacity to handle pressure and changing circumstances.
Psychological immaturity is also linked to a diminished ability to manage emotions and make balanced decisions, alongside a tendency to avoid responsibility or rely excessively on others when facing problems. From the perspective of modern psychology, psychological maturity is viewed as a gradual process that evolves through life experiences, learning, and self-awareness. It does not imply an absence of problems or emotions, but rather the possession of the ability to understand, regulate, and handle them in an adaptive manner.
