This article discusses the implementation of renewable energy generation systems, particularly solar and wind energy, and their impact on conventional electrical power grids. Renewable energy has become an important field in electrical engineering because of the need to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and develop cleaner and more sustainable energy systems. The integration of renewable energy provides several advantages, including reducing greenhouse gas emissions, improving energy sustainability, and potentially reducing long-term operating costs. However, renewable energy sources are characterized by variability. Solar power depends on solar radiation, while wind power depends on wind speed. Consequently, the amount of generated electrical power can change continuously. The article also focuses on the effects of renewable energy integration on grid stability and power quality. A high penetration of renewable energy may introduce challenges related to voltage variations, frequency stability, and power flow. Therefore, advanced control, monitoring, and energy-management systems are required to maintain reliable grid operation. Energy storage systems, especially battery energy storage, represent an important solution. Excess energy can be stored during periods of high renewable generation and supplied to the grid when renewable generation decreases. Advanced control strategies can also improve energy management and optimize power flow. Overall, the article demonstrates that successful renewable energy integration requires more than installing renewable generators. It requires improvements in grid infrastructure, control systems, energy storage, protection, and monitoring technologies. Therefore, renewable energy integration represents an essential step toward developing more efficient, reliable, and sustainable electrical power systems Almustaqbal University – The First University in Iraq
