A Strategic Step Toward Advancing Digital Education: Al-Mustaqbal University Explores Joint Master's Programs in Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity with Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), USA

As part of its vision to internationalize higher education and strengthen research excellence, Al-Mustaqbal University held a high-level meeting with Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), USA, a distinguished R1 research university, to discuss academic collaboration and the launch of joint master's degree programs in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Cybersecurity. The meeting reflected the University's commitment to expanding strategic international partnerships with leading global institutions, aiming to develop advanced academic programs that address the demands of the digital era, meet the needs of the global labor market, and enhance the quality of higher education in Iraq. The meeting was chaired by Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdy, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, while Dr. Asim Eskandarian, Dean of the College of Engineering at VCU, led the delegation from Virginia Commonwealth University. Representatives from the Iraqi Cultural Attaché in Washington, D.C., and the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research also participated to ensure that the proposed programs align with both international academic standards and national regulations. The Al-Mustaqbal University delegation included Prof. Dr. Muzaffar Al-Zuhairi, Director of Scientific and Academic Supervision; Prof. Dr. Azhar Mohammed Abd, Dean of the College of Engineering and Technologies; directors of the International Relations, Cultural Missions, and Scientific Affairs departments; as well as a number of faculty members and researchers. The VCU delegation included the Dean of the College of Engineering, the Director of Graduate Studies, and several senior academic officials. During the meeting, both sides reviewed the research capabilities and academic excellence of VCU's College of Engineering, particularly in the fields of robotics, autonomous systems, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity. Discussions also focused on the preliminary framework for the proposed joint master's programs and mechanisms for their implementation in accordance with internationally recognized academic standards. Speaking during the meeting, Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdy emphasized that Al-Mustaqbal University has adopted an ambitious strategy to internationalize education and expand its global academic presence through strategic partnerships with world-class universities. He noted that collaboration with VCU represents an important milestone in achieving this vision. He further explained that the University is working to establish specialized graduate programs in Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity based on internationally recognized curricula and rigorous academic standards. In addition, the partnership aims to strengthen joint research in robotics, intelligent systems, and cybersecurity solutions, promote collaborative publications in prestigious international journals, and expand academic exchange opportunities and research fellowships for faculty members. The meeting concluded with both institutions agreeing to continue technical discussions to finalize academic and administrative procedures, prepare the official cooperation agreements, and obtain approval from the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The joint master's programs are expected to be launched as soon as the required approvals are secured, contributing to the preparation of highly qualified graduates capable of leading innovation and digital transformation in the future. Al-Mustaqbal University is the first one university in Iraq.
