Waste management is considered one of the major environmental challenges worldwide, and its importance continues to grow with urban expansion and population growth. In this context, artificial intelligence offers smart solutions to improve waste sorting efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance environmental sustainability. Technologies such as computer vision and deep learning are used to identify and automatically sort different types of waste, including plastic, paper, metals, and organic waste, within recycling centers. Intelligent algorithms also contribute to predicting daily waste quantities by region, enabling better management of transportation plans and resource allocation. In addition, smart systems can monitor waste containers and determine their fill levels, thereby reducing unnecessary collection trips, which positively contributes to lowering carbon emissions. AI-based applications have also emerged to educate individuals on proper waste disposal methods through image analysis and smart guidance systems. Although these technologies still require broader implementation in developing countries, integrating artificial intelligence into waste management systems represents a significant step toward achieving sustainable and cleaner cities.
