Embedded systems are specialized computing systems designed to perform specific tasks within larger devices or machines. They are integrated into electronic components to operate efficiently without direct user intervention. These systems rely on microcontrollers or digital signal processors (DSPs) and are used in a wide range of applications, from simple household devices to complex industrial systems, automobiles, and aircraft. Embedded systems are characterized by their small size and energy efficiency, making them ideal for devices that require continuous operation with low power consumption. For example, they are used in smartphones to manage core functions such as signal processing and power control. They also play a critical role in medical systems, such as pacemakers, where they enable accurate and continuous monitoring of a patient’s condition. In the industrial sector, embedded systems are widely used in industrial automation, where they control production lines and equipment to ensure high precision and efficiency. In modern vehicles, these systems are responsible for controlling braking systems, airbags, and monitoring engine performance, thereby enhancing safety and performance. They are also essential in the Internet of Things (IoT), where they collect, analyze data, and control smart devices. Despite their many advantages, embedded systems face challenges such as design complexity, limited resources, and security issues, as they can be vulnerable to cyberattacks. Therefore, their development requires the integration of advanced security solutions and performance optimization techniques to ensure reliable operation. Thanks to ongoing advancements in electronics and artificial intelligence, embedded systems have become more sophisticated and efficient, opening new opportunities in various fields such as healthcare, robotics, and smart control systems. As innovation continues, the role of embedded systems will grow in improving quality of life and making technology more seamlessly integrated into our daily lives.
