College of Science Participates in the International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies Event

Under the patronage of Professor Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, the College of Science participated in the awareness-raising event held by the Sustainability Division at the University Presidency to commemorate the International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies. The event was organized in the university gardens, with the participation of Assistant Professor Dr. Furat Al-Sultani, Dean of the College of Science, and the Heads of the College’s Scientific Departments, in addition to Professor Dr. Muzaffar Sadiq Al-Zuhairi, Director of Scientific and Academic Supervision, along with a number of department and division directors, university staff, and students. The event aimed to raise awareness of the importance of air quality, highlight the risks associated with air pollution and its impact on human health and the environment, and encourage sustainable behaviors and practices that contribute to creating a healthy and safe university environment. During the event, Professor Dr. Muzaffar Sadiq Al-Zuhairi emphasized the importance of utilizing international days and occasions to raise awareness of the major issues and challenges facing society and the world, particularly climate change and air pollution. He stressed the need to strengthen environmental awareness and support scientific and community initiatives aimed at reducing their impacts. He also highlighted that Al-Mustaqbal University places significant emphasis on monitoring air quality indicators and pollutants resulting from various activities. He explained that the Al-Mustaqbal Center for Energy Research undertakes this responsibility through a specialized air quality monitoring station that provides scientific data that can be utilized in research and studies related to the environment, climate, and energy, particularly by researchers and postgraduate students. For his part, Eng. Khalid Kadhim Al-Salihi, Head of the Sustainability Division, explained that the university continues to implement a range of initiatives and practices aimed at reducing air pollution. These include expanding green spaces, promoting green transportation, improving waste management, and implementing environmental awareness programs targeting students and university staff to enhance their sense of environmental responsibility. The participation of the College of Science in this event reflects its commitment to supporting Al-Mustaqbal University’s efforts to promote sustainability and environmental awareness, as well as strengthening the role of its scientific departments, staff, and students in initiatives addressing environmental and climate challenges. The event also contributes to the university’s efforts to provide a healthy, safe, and sustainable academic environment, in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the university’s vision of transforming environmental awareness into practical initiatives and sustainable practices.
