As part of its commitment to advancing the educational process and enhancing the quality of assessment methods, the Department of Radiology Technologies at the College of Health and Medical Technologies, Al-Mustaqbal University, has developed a Guide to Assessing Scientific Skills in Academic Courses. The guide serves as a structured reference outlining the mechanisms for assessing students’ skills in theoretical, practical, and applied courses, in accordance with the nature of the Radiology Technologies discipline and the requirements of the academic programme. The guide was prepared under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr Abbas Abdul Ali Al-Bawi, with the follow-up of Assistant Professor Dr Zahraa Haleem Al-Qayim, Dean of the College of Health and Medical Technologies, and Assistant Lecturer Basma Abdul Khaliq Aidan, the department’s Measurement and Evaluation Officer. This initiative reflects the College’s and Department’s commitment to developing an integrated measurement and evaluation system and promoting the implementation of clear and systematic assessment methods. The guide covers several key areas, beginning with an introduction to the Department, including its vision, mission, and objectives, as well as the objectives of the skills assessment guide and the relevant assessment mechanisms. It also clarifies the responsibilities of the Department’s officials in implementing assessment procedures and presents the study system, the academic programme description, its structure, and the courses offered. Furthermore, the guide outlines the assessment methods used for theoretical courses, including continuous assessment and final examinations, the standards and requirements to be considered when preparing theoretical examination questions, and the procedures for marking and evaluating students’ answers. It also addresses the assessment of practical and applied courses, including practical course assessment, field training assessment, and research project assessment (graduation project), in line with the academic and practical requirements of the discipline. The guide also includes a range of assessment forms and templates, including essay questions, multiple-choice questions (MCQs), bubble-sheet answer forms, and assessment forms for practical courses and field training. These resources help standardise assessment procedures, organise their implementation, and facilitate the monitoring of students’ academic performance. The Measurement and Evaluation Unit within the Department plays an important role in monitoring and organising assessment procedures and contributing to the review of assessment tools and templates. These efforts support the implementation of accurate and systematic assessment methods, facilitate the monitoring of students’ performance, and contribute to the continuous improvement of the educational process. The development of this guide underscores the Department of Radiology Technologies at the College of Health and Medical Technologies, Al-Mustaqbal University’s commitment to establishing a comprehensive assessment system that takes into account the nature of academic courses and the targeted scientific and practical skills, thereby enhancing the quality of academic programme outcomes and supporting the continuous development of the educational process.
