As part of its continuous efforts to strengthen its research presence and expand engagement with international academic programs, a number of researchers and faculty members from Al-Mustaqbal University participated in the international training workshop organized by the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research / Department of Scholarships and Cultural Relations, in cooperation with the European Union and the EU Training Lab initiative, entitled “Unlocking EU Research, Innovation and Initiative Funding Opportunities for Iraqi Researchers within Horizon Europe” The workshop was held online on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, and lasted for three hours, with the participation of specialized European trainers and researchers from various Iraqi universities The workshop aimed to introduce Iraqi researchers to the “Horizon Europe” program, which is considered one of the largest research and innovation funding programs in the European Union. It also highlighted application mechanisms and research opportunities available for Iraqi academic institutions, contributing to the development of researchers’ capabilities and enhancing the participation of Iraqi universities in international research projects The participation of Al-Mustaqbal University researchers reflects the university’s commitment to supporting research activities and expanding international academic cooperation, as well as empowering researchers to benefit from global programs that contribute to improving the quality of scientific research and keeping pace with modern developments in innovation and knowledge
Al-Mustaqbal University outlined the features of the next phase toward transformation into a productive university and sustainable innovation during a strategic meeting held on Sunday, 10/5/2026, at the university presidency. The meeting was chaired by the President of the University, Hassan Shaker Majdi, with the participation of the Director of the Scientific Affairs Department, Tariq Jawad Kazem, and in the presence of the Director of Scientific and Academic Supervision, Mudthar Sadiq Al-Zuhairi, alongside directors of research centers, the Continuing Education Center, and the Science and Technology Parks Department. The meeting aimed to review performance and develop a roadmap for the upcoming phase in a manner that enhances institutional integration and activates the role of research centers in serving society and supporting sustainable development The meeting discussed the strategy for transforming into a productive university through supporting entrepreneurial projects and strengthening partnerships with the private sector, in addition to launching qualitative initiatives that contribute to addressing challenges related to energy, climate change, and health, as well as creating new job opportunities that help reduce unemployment and poverty. The meeting also reviewed the most prominent activities and achievements accomplished by the research centers during the previous period The University President stressed the importance of preparing specialized training programs for capacity building and expanding cooperation with governmental, private, and community sectors in a way that reinforces the university’s position as a center for knowledge production and innovation. Meanwhile, Mudthar Sadiq Al-Zuhairi pointed to the importance of enhancing integration among different disciplines, particularly in the fields of Artificial Intelligence and energy, which have become key pillars shaping the future of education and scientific research
Al-Mustaqbal University has recorded a prominent international presence through the selection of Engineer Ali Zwain, Director of the International Rankings Unit at the university, as a member of the Judges Panel for the Green Gown Awards 2026 in the United Kingdom, representing the university in one of the most prestigious global awards dedicated to sustainability in higher education This selection came in 2026 as part of the award’s activities held in the United Kingdom, organized by the Environmental Association for Universities and Colleges (EAUC), in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the International Association of Universities (IAU), and the Higher Education Sustainability Initiative (HESI). The award recognizes academic institutions and projects that achieve tangible impact in environmental, social, and economic sustainability This event represents an international selection of an Iraqi academic figure to participate in judging global entries, alongside a distinguished group of experts and specialists from around the world, with the aim of evaluating university initiatives and promoting sustainability concepts within higher education institutions This achievement reflects the advanced standing reached by Al-Mustaqbal University and confirms the growing international confidence in its academic competencies It also strengthens the university’s presence in global forums related to sustainable development and supports its direction toward building a responsible and sustainable educational environment. Al-Mustaqbal University has strengthened its international academic presence with the launch of the first day of a joint training program for its students on Monday at Alanya Alaaddin Keykubat University (ALKU) in the Republic of Türkiye, in a step aimed at developing practical skills and embracing global educational experiences This participation comes as part of an international training program designed to equip students with advanced applied expertise, enhance their competitiveness in the global job market, and expand opportunities for joint scientific research between the two institutions The activities began with a visit by the Al-Mustaqbal University delegation, which included Dr. Amir Najah, Assistant Lecturer Mustafa Hussein Mohammed, and Assistant Lecturer Ali Mazhar. The delegation conveyed the greetings of the University President, Professor Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi. They were received by the President of Alanya Alaaddin Keykubat University, Dr. Kenan Ahmet Türkdoğan, who emphasized the importance of this partnership in developing practical skills and advancing rigorous scientific research The first day featured a comprehensive field tour across several university facilities, accompanied by Professor Dr. Altgan, Head of the Aeronautical Engineering Department, and Dr. Leyla Akbulat. Al-Mustaqbal University has strengthened its international academic presence through the participation of its President, Professor Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, as part of a high-level Iraqi ministerial delegation headed by the Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research for Scientific Affairs, Professor Dr. Haider Abdul Dhahd. The delegation conducted a scientific tour in the Arab Republic of Egypt in 2026, aiming to expand international partnerships, support scientific research, and enhance the global ranking of Iraqi universities The tour included more than four major academic institutions, notably Al-Azhar University, Mansoura University, the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education, and the regional office of Elsevier, in addition to Intlaq Digital Transformation Company. During the visit, extensive meetings were held with academic leaders to discuss mechanisms for cooperation, activate memoranda of understanding, and advance twinning programs The visit also focused on monitoring and following up on joint postgraduate programs, particularly the Master’s program in Law between Al-Mustaqbal University and Mansoura University, which represents a successful model of academic collaboration. Discussions further addressed mutual recognition mechanisms and ways to overcome challenges facing researchers The delegation also reviewed the latest scientific publishing technologies using artificial intelligence, alongside advanced experiences in digital transformation within educational institutions, contributing to the development of the academic environment and enhancing the global visibility of Iraqi researchers This participation comes within a strategic direction adopted by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to promote international openness and build an integrated educational system based on knowledge exchange and academic collaboration between Iraq and Egypt

Al-Mustaqbal University participated, under the patronage of its President, Professor Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, in the interviews conducted for the preparation of the Mediterranean Innovation Partnership (MIP) report. This annual report is led by CIHEAM Bari in cooperation with the Mediterranean Universities Union (UNIMED), and aims to examine the state of innovation and entrepreneurship among youth in Mediterranean countries The participation took place through a meeting held via Zoom on Friday, April 17, 2026, with the involvement of several international academic figures, including Ms. Lynda Achkouty Mouawad, Director of the SEED Business Incubator at Antonine University, and Ms. Silvia Marchionne, Project Manager at UNIMED. Al-Mustaqbal University was represented by Professor Dr. Tariq Jawad Al-Moussawi, Head of the Scientific Affairs Department This participation comes within the framework of preparing a scientific chapter entitled The Role of Ecosystem Players in Connecting Startups with Companies: Focus on Universities in Southern Mediterranean Countries which highlights the role of universities in linking startups with institutions and enhancing innovation ecosystems in Southern Mediterranean countries During the interviews, the university’s experience in supporting innovation and linking scientific research with practical application was presented, in addition to its role in supporting startups and small and medium enterprises. The discussion also emphasized the importance of technology transfer in transforming research outputs into practical, applicable solutions The meeting also highlighted the university’s contribution to implementing several key projects in the fields of clean energy, water resource management, sustainable agriculture, and technology, as successful models of strengthening collaboration between the university, society, and the private sector
