1st International Sustainability Leaders Meeting (ISLM) 2025

To Strengthen Its Global Academic Standing, Al-Mustaqbal University Excels in the 1st International Sustainability Leaders Meeting (ISLM) 2025 In line with its vision to enhance its presence in international scientific forums, Al-Mustaqbal University, represented by its President, Prof. Dr. Hasan Shaker Majdi, actively participated in the 1st International Sustainability Leaders Meeting (ISLM) 2025, organized by UI GreenMetric at Abu Dhabi University from February 26–27, 2025. Notably, Al-Mustaqbal University was the only Iraqi university present at this distinguished academic event. The university delegation included: Asst. Prof. Dr. Azhar Mohsen Abdul – Dean of the College of Engineering and Engineering Technologies Lecturer Dr. Ali Shaker Majdi – Director of the Quality Assurance and Accreditation Department & Assistant Dean of the College of Health and Medical Technologies Prof. Dr. Tariq Jawad Kazem – Director of the Scientific Affairs Department The conference gathered a distinguished group of experts and academics from renowned global universities, where Al-Mustaqbal University’s delegation engaged in intensive academic discussions on enhancing the university's scientific reputation and strengthening its role in the international academic community. The discussions focused on increasing research output, establishing strategic partnerships, and actively participating in global scientific initiatives. The delegation also emphasized the development of academic programs and their alignment with modern research trends to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Additionally, the delegation attended a series of specialized scientific lectures that covered global academic ranking mechanisms, evaluation criteria for universities, and strategies for institutional performance improvement. The success stories of leading universities, such as the University of São Paulo, were analyzed, highlighting the key factors behind their advancement in global rankings and the strategies they adopted to strengthen their academic and research standing. These insights provide a valuable roadmap for universities aspiring to achieve top global rankings. During panel discussions, Al-Mustaqbal University representatives underscored the importance of knowledge exchange and international research collaboration, highlighting the university’s achievements in scientific research and global rankings. They reaffirmed the university’s commitment to enhancing higher education quality in Iraq, in line with its ambitious strategy for academic and research excellence. On the sidelines of the conference, the delegation visited various scientific laboratories and academic departments at Abu Dhabi University, exploring successful experiences to enhance research programs and facilities at Al-Mustaqbal University. These efforts aim to boost the university’s international ranking, support its societal role, and strengthen global partnerships.

With active participation from the Scientific Affairs Department members, Al-Mustaqbal University hosted a specialized workshop on the Bologna Process and the Times Higher Education (THE) ranking system on Wednesday, February 19, 2025. Organized by the College of Engineering and Engineering Technologies, the workshop emphasized the importance of rankings as a priority for universities amid increasing competition, highlighting strategies to improve academic performance according to THE standards. The event concluded with honoring the guests for their valuable insights into advancing higher education and enhancing research quality to achieve top results in global rankings.

Najaf International Book Fair

The Najaf International Book Fair witnessed a significant participation this year, with more than 200 publishing houses presenting around 600,000 titles across various fields, reinforcing its status as a major cultural event that highlights Najaf s role as a capital of culture and knowledge. In this context, Al-Mustaqbal University took part with a distinguished pavilion that reflects its commitment to spreading knowledge and promoting academic and scientific awareness. Mr. Ali Abbas, Head of the Rankings Division at the university, toured the exhibition to explore the displayed scientific publications and benefit from them. He also introduced visitors to the university’s research and academic achievements, emphasizing its role in enhancing global rankings through support for scientific research and collaboration with intellectual and cultural institutions. Mr. Ali Abbas affirmed that the university’s participation in the exhibition aligns with its mission to support scientific production and enrich cultural dialogue. He noted that the pavilion attracted the attention of researchers and academics, who praised the university’s initiatives in research and sustainable education. It is worth mentioning that the Najaf International Book Fair is one of Iraq’s most prominent cultural events, serving as a platform for knowledge exchange between publishers and readers. The exhibition features numerous cultural activities, including book launches and signings, as well as intellectual seminars and accompanying literary events.

Al-Mustaqbal University Leads Iraqi Universities in the Number of Highly Cited Research Papers, According to the Web of Science Ranking

In the latest bulletin issued by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research / Office of the Deputy Minister for Scientific Research Affairs, Al-Mustaqbal University has achieved a new scientific milestone by ranking first among Iraqi universities in the number of Highly Cited Papers, according to the Web of Science classification for the period 2019–2024. The President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Professor Dr. Hasan Shaker Majdi, stated in a press release that the university s record of Highly Cited Papers has reached 47, enabling it to secure the top position among 49 public and private universities featured in the Web of Science ranking. The University of Baghdad ranked second, followed by the University of Technology in third place. Dr. Majdi congratulated the university’s faculty, students, and staff on this remarkable scientific achievement, urging further dedication and excellence not only in research but across all fields that align with the university’s vision and mission of continuous improvement. He also reaffirmed his support for all initiatives aimed at achieving the highest levels of excellence and success.

His Excellency, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, extends a letter of appreciation to the President of Al-Mustaqbal University and researchers with more than ten publications indexed in the Web of Science. Al-Mustaqbal University records the highest number of honorees in this recognition.

Al-Mustaqbal University Leads Its Peers in Research Output on Sustainable Development Goals

mong private universities and surpassing many public universities, according to the latest report issued by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The report evaluates the research output of Iraqi universities based on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Professor Dr. Hasan Shaker Majdi, President of the University, stated that Al-Mustaqbal University secured the top position among private universities with 916 research papers, followed by the Islamic University with 57 papers and Al-Farahidi University in third place with 6 papers. The university's research contributions were distributed across five key SDGs: SDG 7 (Clean Energy) led with 495 papers. SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) followed with 169 papers. SDG 13 (Climate Action) accounted for 137 papers. SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) included 87 papers. SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) recorded 28 papers. This achievement underscores Al-Mustaqbal University’s commitment to impactful research that advances sustainability and global development goals.

Al-Mustaqbal University… Ranked First Among Private Universities and Second in Iraq in the Times Higher Education Interdisciplinary Science Rankings (ISR) 2025, in Its First Edition…

The President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Professor Dr. Hasan Shaker Majdi, announced that Al-Mustaqbal University has achieved first place among private universities in Iraq and ranked second nationally in the Times Higher Education Interdisciplinary Science Ranking (ISR) 2025. The results were announced today, Thursday, November 21, 2024, in the first global edition of this ranking, which was recently launched in partnership between the British Times Higher Education and the German Schmidt Science Foundation.
