Innovative Water Solutions: Reverse Osmosis Desalination Unit at Al-Mustaqbal University

As part of its strategic vision to enhance both environmental and economic sustainability, Al-Mustaqbal University has recently launched a series of pioneering projects aimed at the efficient management of water resources both on-campus and within its surrounding environment. These initiatives include a saline water treatment system for agricultural applications, a greywater recycling unit, a desalination facility utilizing Reverse Osmosis (RO) technology, and a mineral water bottling plant. Collectively, these efforts underscore the university’s strong commitment to advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those related to clean water, climate action, innovation, and responsible consumption. Through this project, Al-Mustaqbal University seeks to treat high-salinity well water (approximately 5,000 ppm) using advanced Reverse Osmosis (RO) technology, with the goal of producing purified water suitable for both drinking and agricultural applications. • Project Area: 5,000 m² • Production Capacity: 10,000 liters per hour Core Technologies Implemented: • Sand and Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) Filters: For the removal of suspended solids and organic compounds • Dechlorination Units: To prevent membrane degradation and ensure the longevity of the RO system • Three-Stage RO System: Designed to reduce salinity to below 150 ppm, while maintaining a pH range of 6.5 to 8.5, ensuring water quality that meets agricultural and potable standards Key Benefits • Ensures a reliable and safe water supply for both drinking and irrigation purposes, directly addressing water scarcity challenges. • Promotes sustainable agriculture on campus by providing a consistent source of high-quality, low-salinity water. • Reduces reliance on external water sources, thereby strengthening the university’s water self-sufficiency. • Enhances climate resilience by adopting adaptive water management practices aligned with environmental sustainability goals. please use:
