Minister of Environment Visits Al-Mustaqbal University, Praises Its Pioneering Initiatives in Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development

As part of strengthening cooperation between academic institutions and government bodies in addressing environmental challenges, Al-Mustaqbal University welcomed H.E. Dr. Halo Al-Askari, Minister of Environment, on Wednesday, July 16, 2025. The visit included a tour of several pioneering initiatives launched by the university in the fields of environmental protection, combating desertification, climate change adaptation, and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Minister visited the Future Renewable Energy Research Center, where he reviewed the state-of-the-art technologies and equipment supporting research in clean and sustainable energy. He also toured the Artificial Intelligence Research Center, observing projects that apply AI to tackle environmental issues. The visit concluded with a tour of the university's natural reserve, an unprecedented initiative among Iraqi universities aimed at preserving biodiversity. In a media statement, the Minister expressed deep admiration for the university's applied efforts, describing Al-Mustaqbal University as a leading national model and a strategic partner in implementing environmental policies. Professor Dr. Mudhafar Al-Zuhairi welcomed the ministerial delegation, emphasizing the university's commitment to environmental and societal issues. He highlighted Al-Mustaqbal University’s achievement of ranking first among Iraqi universities in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2025, with global distinction in SDG 7 – Affordable and Clean Energy.

Al-Mustaqbal University Among the Leading Iraqi Universities in Clarivate Research Impact Ranking (2020–2024)

Al-Mustaqbal University has achieved a new milestone in the field of scientific research, ranking among the top-performing Iraqi universities according to Clarivate Research Impact data for the period 2020 to 2024, as reported by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research – Research and Development Department / Office of the Deputy Minister for Scientific Research Affairs. These results reflect the university’s dedicated efforts to publish high-quality and impactful scientific research, and its strong belief that research is a fundamental pillar alongside education and community service. According to the Ministry’s data, Al-Mustaqbal University has, over the past five years, built a distinguished research system and remained committed to supporting and empowering its researchers, positioning itself as a pioneer in achieving both national and international academic accreditations. This accomplishment reaffirms the university’s steady progress toward becoming a leading institution in Iraq and the region, through enhancing scientific output, developing research capacities, and contributing actively to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Al-Mustaqbal University Achieves H-index of 75: A Scientific Milestone Reflecting Research Quality and Impact

The H-index is one of the most important global indicators used to measure the quality and impact of scientific research. It is adopted by the reputable Elsevier | Scopus database and is calculated based on the number of research publications and the number of citations those publications receive—highlighting both productivity and influence. Achieving an H-index of 75 is a remarkable accomplishment for Al-Mustaqbal University, reflecting: 🔸 Strong and influential research output recognized on a global scale. 🔸 Commitment to high-quality scientific publishing in peer-reviewed journals indexed in Scopus. 🔸 Significant contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through impactful and relevant research. 🔸 Enhanced global ranking and visibility across international university ranking systems such as Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Times Higher Education, and QS World University Rankings. This indicator confirms that Al-Mustaqbal University is not only focused on publishing research but is also dedicated to producing high-impact knowledge that shapes the future of science and innovation.

Workshop on Retracted Papers and How to Avoid Research Retraction from Indexing Databases

With gratitude to God, and under the direct guidance of the Honorable University President, and the supervision of the Director of Scientific and Academic Supervision, the awareness workshop titled “Retracted Papers and How to Avoid Research Retraction from Indexing Databases” was held today, Tuesday, July 1, 2025, with the participation of a distinguished group of faculty members and researchers. The workshop covered several important topics, including: The definition of retracted papers and the reasons behind retraction. The academic and ethical implications for researchers and institutions. How to avoid retraction by adhering to research ethics and integrity standards. Real-life examples that helped attendees better understand the topic. The workshop witnessed active and fruitful engagement from participants, contributing to raising academic awareness and reinforcing a culture of integrity in scientific research within the university. The Scientific Affairs Department extends its sincere thanks to all participants, affirming its commitment to continue organizing workshops and scientific courses aimed at enhancing researchers’ competencies and improving the quality of scientific research.

: Announcement of Attending a Workshop: Clarivate

I am pleased to announce that I attended today, Monday, June 30, 2025, the online workshop for the launch of the 2025 Journal Citation Reports™, which was held from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM Baghdad time. Presenter: Jamal EL OUAHI 📚 The workshop covered the most important updates of the annual Journal Citation Reports, explaining how to leverage expanded journal profiles and performance indicators such as the Journal Impact Factor (JIF) to make informed scientific decisions, whether in publishing research or managing research collections. The integration of the report with other Clarivate products, such as the Web of Science, and ways to incorporate journal metrics into research systems were also demonstrated. The workshop was a valuable opportunity to enhance my knowledge of journal metrics and evaluation methods, keeping up with the latest developments in academic publishing.

Al-Mustaqbal University Achieves Historic Milestone in THE Impact Rankings 2025

The UK-based Times Higher Education (THE) announced today, Wednesday, 18 June 2025, the results of the Impact Rankings 2025, one of the most prestigious global rankings in higher education, which evaluates universities' performance in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Al-Mustaqbal University has achieved a historic accomplishment by securing the first position among all Iraqi public and private universities, affirming its leadership in adopting a comprehensive sustainable development vision that strengthens its academic and research standing regionally and globally. On the global stage, the university was ranked within the 201–300 band out of 2,526 participating universities from 130 countries, reflecting the intense international competition in this highly regarded ranking. The university demonstrated exceptional performance in several SDGs, notably achieving: 🔹 SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy): Ranked 1st Globally Surpassing many prestigious universities across Europe, America, and Asia, this achievement highlights the ability of Iraqi universities to make significant global contributions in critical fields such as environmental sustainability and renewable energy. The university also earned leading positions in several other SDGs as follows: 🎯 SDG 1 (No Poverty): 1st in Iraq and within the 101–200 global band 🎯 SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being): 2nd in Iraq and within the 101–200 global band 🎯 SDG 4 (Quality Education): 1st in Iraq and within the 201–300 global band 🎯 SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation): 1st in Iraq and ranked 60th globally 🎯 SDG 13 (Climate Action): 1st in Iraq and within the 201–300 global band 🎯 SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions): 1st in Iraq and within the 101–200 global band This significant academic and leadership accomplishment is the result of a clear strategic vision adopted by the university, aligning its educational and administrative systems with global sustainability standards, and actively engaging its academic community and students in impactful initiatives and programs that contribute to sustainable development in all its dimensions.

Al-Mustaqbal University Participates in Clarivate Scientific Publishing Workshop

As part of its commitment to enhancing the academic publishing capacities of its faculty members, a delegation from Al-Mustaqbal University participated in a specialized workshop titled “Scientific Publishing in Clarivate Journals: Strategies and Performance Enhancement”, held on June 18, 2025. The workshop, organized under the patronage of the Supervision and Scientific Evaluation Authority at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, in collaboration with Clarivate, reviewed the latest methodologies for selecting reputable scientific journals, strategies for improving research quality and academic publishing, as well as providing detailed guidance on registration procedures and maximizing the benefits of Clarivate’s services. Al-Mustaqbal University was represented by: Prof. Dr. Tariq Jawad Kazem, Director of the Scientific Affairs Department Mr. Ali Obeid, Technology Incubator Unit This participation reflects Al-Mustaqbal University's ongoing efforts to support scientific research, enhance international publishing, and meet the standards of global academic rankings.
