Workshop on Enhancing Research Excellence in Iraq As part of its continuous efforts to promote academic excellence and support scientific research, Al-Mustaqbal University organized a workshop titled “Enhancing Research Excellence in Iraq: Practical Insights into Web of Science & Journal Citation Reports (JCR)” on October 14, 2025. The session, presented by Anas N. Obaid (Clarivate), offered hands-on training on utilizing Web of Science to evaluate journals, interpret citation metrics, and identify high-impact publication opportunities. Participants explored strategies to enhance research visibility and strengthen the quality of academic publishing at national and international levels.

Al-Mustaqbal University Continues "Al-Mustaqbal Ambassadors for Sustainability" Camp and Launches AI Hackathon

The second day of the "Al-Mustaqbal Ambassadors for Sustainability" camp kicked off today at the Babylon Tourist Resort, under the patronage of Mr. Adnan Fayhan Al-Dulaimi, Governor of Babylon, and the supervision of Prof. Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, with wide participation from academic leaders, students, and community representatives The day’s activities included a flag-raising ceremony, a student parade, and a series of inspiring speeches highlighting the university’s leadership in sustainability, research excellence, and youth empowerment On behalf of the university’s presidency, Prof. Dr. Muzafar Sadiq Al-Zuhairi emphasized that sustainability is both a national responsibility and a human imperative, noting the university’s global achievements, including its world-leading ranking in SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) and receiving three Clarivate Excellence Awards in engineering, health, and agricultural sciences The day also featured the announcement of the Al-Mustaqbal AI Hackathon for Sustainability Applications and the University Excellence Awards, followed by a cultural performance by the Ministry of Culture celebrating the heritage of Mesopotamia The camp reflects Al-Mustaqbal University’s vision of empowering youth, fostering innovation, and leading the way toward a sustainable future

Al-Mustaqbal University Launches the Al-Mustaqbal Ambassadors for Sustainability Camp

Under the patronage of Mr. Adnan Fayhan Al-Dulaimi, Governor of Babylon, Al-Mustaqbal University organized the "Al-Mustaqbal Ambassadors for Sustainability" camp at the Babylon Tourist Resort, supervised by Prof. Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi, President of the University The camp witnessed wide participation from academic leaders, students, and the local community, alongside the President of Alanya Alaaddin University from Turkey. The activities included a cycling and running marathon, student exhibitions, and a fashion show presented by the Iraqi Fashion House This initiative reflects Al-Mustaqbal University’s commitment to community engagement, sustainability, and youth empowerment, while supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the vision of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research

Al-Mustaqbal University Completes Preparations for the Sustainability Camp

The Scientific Affairs Department at Al-Mustaqbal University continues its intensive preparations to launch the Sustainability Camp, which will be held at the Babylon Tourist Resort. The camp is part of a purposeful scientific and training program aimed at enhancing students’ understanding of sustainability and innovation These preparations are being conducted under the direct supervision of the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Prof. Dr. Hasan Shaker Majdi, and with the continuous guidance and follow-up of the Director of Scientific and Academic Supervision, Prof. Dr. Muzaffar Al-Zuhairi, to ensure a high-quality experience that reflects the university’s vision in supporting student-led initiatives and developing environmental and scientific skills The camp is part of a series of university initiatives aimed at promoting a culture of sustainability on campus and within the wider community, emphasizing students’ role as active partners in addressing environmental challenges and shaping a more sustainable future Al-Mustaqbal University affirms that the Sustainability Camp will provide an important opportunity for students to gain new experiences and expand their horizons for creativity and innovation, in line with the university’s commitment to preparing a generation capable of contributing to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals at the national level

Al-Mustaqbal University Holds Preparatory Meeting for International Conference on Artificial Intelligence in Medical Education

Al-Mustaqbal University, through its Office of Scientific and Academic Supervision, held the first preparatory meeting for the upcoming International Scientific Conference on Artificial Intelligence Applications in Medical Education, organized by the College of Medicine. The meeting, chaired by Prof. Dr. Mudhaffar Sadiq Al-Zuhairy, Director of Scientific and Academic Supervision, and attended by Prof. Dr. Walaa Al-Falluji, Dean of the College of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Tariq J. Al-Musawi, Director of the Scientific Affairs Department, along with several department heads and faculty members, focused on reviewing the main themes of the conference and outlining its preliminary schedule. Participants discussed the technical and logistical arrangements required to ensure the success of the event, as well as strategies for establishing local and international partnerships with universities, research institutions, and scientific publishing bodies to secure high-quality academic outcomes. Scheduled for April 2026, the conference will bring together researchers and experts from Iraq and abroad specializing in medicine and artificial intelligence. It aims to serve as a pioneering platform for advancing innovation in medical education and strengthening Al-Mustaqbal University’s leadership in integrating modern technologies within academic and scientific development.

Al-Mustaqbal University’s Participation in the Global Rankings Workshop

As part of its strategic approach to enhancing its academic and research standing in international rankings, Al-Mustaqbal University participated in the extended training workshop organized by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, in cooperation with the Department of Scholarships and Cultural Relations and the Association of Arab Universities. The workshop was held from Monday, September 22, 2025, to Thursday, September 25, 2025, at Gilgamesh University – Baghdad. This participation comes within the university’s commitment to keeping pace with developments related to international and regional rankings, particularly the Times Higher Education (THE) and QS Rankings, and to exploring ways of improving research and academic performance indicators that enhance the competitiveness of Iraqi universities regionally and globally. The workshop featured detailed presentations delivered by Tarek Elkhooly, researcher at Delta University for Science and Technology (Egypt) and member of the International Rankings Technical Committee, who addressed the following points: 1-Mechanisms and criteria of QS and Times Higher Education rankings and their branches. 2-The importance of international cooperation and following up on voting communications. 3-The significance of the Field-Weighted Citation Impact (FWCI) as a quality research indicator. 4-The necessity of publishing in reputable journals ranked within the top 10% of global citations. A comparative analysis of Iraqi universities’ performance in scientific publications and citations for the period (2020–2024). Case studies of successful international experiences in advancing universities’ positions in global rankings. Al-Mustaqbal University was represented in this workshop by: Prof. Dr. Tariq Jwad – Director of the Scientific Affairs Department. Mr. Ali Zwain – Director of the International Rankings Unit. The university’s delegation emphasized during its participation that such events represent an important opportunity to learn from best international practices in rankings and to strengthen academic partnerships that contribute to consolidating Al-Mustaqbal University’s position as one of the leading universities in Iraq and the region. The active participation of Al-Mustaqbal’s ranking officers in such events reflects the university’s strategic vision of building a modern academic environment founded on rigorous scientific research, while expanding academic and research cooperation with regional and international universities to enhance its presence in global rankings and solidify its standing among leading institutions.

Scientific Affairs Department at Al-Mustaqbal University Joins Workshop on Global Rankings and QS Services

The Rankings Team at the Scientific Affairs Department of Al-Mustaqbal University attended the online workshop organized by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in collaboration with the international organization QS on Saturday, 20 September 2025. The workshop highlighted several key points related to the mechanisms for advancing Iraqi universities in global rankings, in addition to showcasing opportunities for participation in the services offered by QS to strengthen the position of Iraqi universities within international academic indicators. Al-Mustaqbal University’s participation comes within the framework of its strategic orientation to enhance its standing in global rankings and align with the Ministry’s plans in this field.

President of Al-Mustaqbal University Delivers Key Lecture in Preparation for the Al-Mustaqbal Ambassadors Sustainability Camp

As part of the ongoing preparations for the Al-Mustaqbal Ambassadors Sustainability Camp scheduled for early October this year, the President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Prof. Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, delivered a distinguished lecture via Zoom, highlighting the importance of this major event and its strategic role in strengthening the University’s mission and community impact. During the lecture, the University President announced the launch of the AI Hackathon for Sustainability, covering a wide range of themes across medical, engineering, administrative, and humanitarian fields, in addition to sports, arts, law, and environmental domains. He emphasized that the competition provides a creative platform to showcase youth talents and harness modern technologies in support of the Sustainable Development Goals. Prof. Majdi also instructed the deans of colleges, academic departments, and administrative units to prepare their contributions to the camp and to follow up on preparations on a regular basis to ensure the success of this landmark event. He stressed the need to actively engage students and young people, as they represent the core element through which the University can deliver its message to society and advance its developmental role. The lecture was co-presented by Prof. Dr. Mudhaffar Sadiq Al-Zuhairy, Director of Scientific and Academic Supervision, who provided a detailed overview of the camp’s activities and organizational plans. The session was attended by more than one hundred participants, including University Vice-Presidents, deans, department heads, and faculty members—reflecting the institution’s strong commitment to making this youth-centered and academic initiative a resounding success.
