Based on the University Order No.( 7/35/3038) dated (2/12/2023), the Unit for Persons with Special Needs was established at our university. The unit is affiliated with the Citizens Affairs Division to provide guidance, care, and the necessary support for persons with special needs. The unit’s affiliation was later amended from the Central Student Activities Department to the Citizens Affairs Division in accordance with University Order No.(7/35/5252) dated (10/12/ 2025).

College of Health and Medical Technologies organizes an awareness event on the occasion of World Autism Awareness Day

The College of Health and Medical Technologies organized a scientific and humanitarian event on the occasion of World Autism Awareness Day, under the theme “Together, We Understand Autism,” with the participation of the Center of Specialist Sura Haroun Rashid and a number of its children. The event included the reception of the center’s children and the organization of a series of recreational and interactive activities that contributed to enhancing their social inclusion and bringing joy to their hearts. It also featured a scientific lecture that addressed Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), focusing on early diagnosis mechanisms and key rehabilitation approaches, while emphasizing the role of families and the wider community in supporting this group. For her part, the Dean of the College, Dr. Zahraa Halim Al-Qayyim, highlighted the importance of such initiatives in promoting health awareness, reinforcing the values of social responsibility, and supporting individuals with special needs. The event concluded with honoring Specialist Sura Haroun and the center’s administration in appreciation of their efforts in caring for children and enhancing community awareness.

Al-Mustaqbal University in Cooperation with Tammuz Organization for Social Development Holds a Wheelchair Basketball Match

The Department of Student Activities and the Division of Citizens’ Affairs (Unit of People with Special Needs) at the University of Al-Mustaqbal, in cooperation with Tammuz Organization for Social Development and with the participation of the College of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, organized a wheelchair basketball match featuring players from the Iraqi National Paralympic Team in Babil Governorate.

Al-Mustaqbal University Signs a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Commission for People with Disabilities and Special Needs in Babil

Al-Mustaqbal University, guided by its humanitarian and societal responsibilities and under the supervision and direction of its president, Professor Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Commission for People with Disabilities and Special Needs in Babil Province on Tuesday, January 13, 2026. This agreement comes as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen cooperation and partnership between academic institutions and government bodies. The MoU aims to enhance academic and social collaboration through the development of joint programs and initiatives that support and empower people with disabilities. The memorandum also provides a framework for the exchange of expertise and the implementation of activities that promote the inclusion of people with disabilities in society, enabling them to benefit from the educational and service opportunities offered by the university

The Fifth Annual Festival in Support of People of Determination

Al-Mustaqbal University launched its fifth annual festival in support of People of Determination, under the gracious patronage and guidance of the President of the University, Professor Dr. Hassan Shaker Majdi. He was represented by Professor Dr. Munther Fadel Hassan, Assistant President for Administrative Affairs. The event was attended by a number of academic, official, and social figures. The Citizens Affairs Division and the Special Needs Unit at Al-Mustaqbal University also participated in the festival’s activities.

Al-Mustaqbal University, represented by the Student Activities Department, participated in the training workshop organized by the Iraqi Association of Persons with Disabilities, which was held in Al-Habbaniyah, Al-Anbar Governorate, from 24 to 25 June 2025. This participation comes as part of the university's commitment to supporting youth empowerment efforts and enhancing awareness of the rights of persons with disabilities. The workshop witnessed wide attendance and active engagement in discussing disability-related issues, during which attention was given to the main challenges faced by students with disabilities within the university campus. It also highlighted the efforts of Al-Mustaqbal University in this regard, particularly in providing an accessible and inclusive educational environment that supports their integration and enhances their participation. In this context, this participation reflects the university's ongoing commitment to promoting a culture of social inclusion, raising awareness of the rights of persons with disabilities, and supporting initiatives aimed at empowering young people and building a more equitable and inclusive society.

Al-Mustaqbal University Participates in a Dialogue Session to Promote Awareness of Landmine Risks

On the occasion of the International Day for Mine Awareness, Al-Mustaqbal University participated in a seminar and dialogue session held in Baghdad under the title "Towards a Mine-Free and Cluster Munition-Free Iraq: Empowering Survivors and Promoting Their Inclusion in Society,” organized upon invitation from the Iraqi Association of Persons with Disabilities (IAOD). The event was attended by the Head of the Disability and Special Needs Unit at Al-Mustaqbal University, Mr. Sajjad Razzaq Al-Hilali, alongside a number of officials and decision-makers, representatives of the community police, and members of the IAOD. The President of Al-Mustaqbal University emphasized the importance of raising awareness of the dangers of landmines, supporting national efforts toward achieving a mine-free Iraq, and strengthening initiatives aimed at empowering survivors and ensuring their effective inclusion in society.

Al-Mustaqbal University Organizes Seminar on Visual Impairment Education Challenges

The Unit of Special Needs, affiliated with the Department of Student Activities at Al-Mustaqbal University, in collaboration with the Medical Group, held a scientific seminar titled “The Educational Reality of the Visually Impaired: Prospects and Challenges," with the participation of specialists, stakeholders, and university students. The seminar discussed educational methods for the visually impaired, including Braille and modern audio technologies such as screen readers that convert text into speech, while highlighting key challenges, particularly the need for educational institutions to adopt modern technologies and programs. It featured contributions from Assistant Professor Karar Abd Ali Mohammed, Director of Noor Al-Imam Al-Sajjad Institute for the Blind and Visually Impaired (Holy Hussaini Shrine, Babylon), and Mr. Yaqoub Habib Ibrahim, MA in Modern History and President of the Nahrain Youth Forum for the Blind. The event was moderated by Sajad Razzaq Kardakh Al-Hilali, a specialist in disability affairs, and attended by Mr. Shakerin Salam Al-Asadi, Director of the Authority for the Care of People with Disabilities and Special Needs / Babylon Branch, along with a number of stakeholders, visually impaired participants, and university students.
