We would like to confirm that Al-Mustaqbal University has been proceeding with its Agricultural Program, which mainly aims to apply the concepts of developing Sustainable Agriculture with their practical application in the Iraqi Agricultural Sector so as to overcome any obstacles that might be faced in this field, whether in Babylon or in other parts of Iraq.
As a matter of fact, such promoting process in the Iraqi Agricultural Sector has become more complicated and broader in scope than before. Accordingly, Studies as well as practical application adopted at Al-Mustaqbal University that are based on the principles of Economic Theory in order to identify the shortcomings in the process of harmony between the three main elements of Sustainable Agricultural Development have been carefully taken into account. These elements are the Natural and Social Environment, in addition to the Main Objectives.
As for the Environmental Dimension, Al-Mustaqbal University Project would definitely contribute to reducing Biodiversity, combating Desertification, and increasing the area of Agricultural Land, whereas its role in the Social Dimension would focus on achieving Food Security, and thus eliminating Poverty, and providing Job Opportunities. There is no doubt that the Agricultural Sector shall play a Major and Effective Role in the creation of Comprehensive Sustainable Economic Development. This Vital Sector indeed would provide the necessary Food Products required to meeting Local Food Demand, in addition to its contribution to Foreign Trade through export of surplus Agricultural Output.
We should finally emphasize that Al-Mustaqbal University Project would certainly achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals, specifically SDG 2: Zero Hunger, and SDG 12: Responsible Consumption & Production. Such achievement would be carried out through Agricultural Greenhouses, Support of Organic Agriculture, and avoiding Harmful Uses of Chemicals by growing Cherry Tomatoes, Peppers, Strawberries, Cucumbers, and other Products.
