Under the Guardianship of His Excellency Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi, Minister of Higher Education & Scientific Research, with the Supervision of Prof. Dr. Hasan Shakir Majdi, Dean of Al-Mustaqbal University College, the “First International Conference on the Future of Sustainable Energy” started its Opening Ceremony on Wednesday 1st March 2023, raising the Slogan “Clean Energy Investment is Our Route Towards Sustainable Development”.
It is remarkable to note that the Conference has been organized in cooperation with the Scientific Society for Energy Studies & Research and the Cultural Attaché in London.
The Conference has been attended by the Presidents of Al-Qasim Green University and Wasit University, in addition to a number of Department Managers as well as Experts and Researchers from inside and outside Iraq. The Conference Activities have included an Exhibition to Empirical Research regarding Solutions of Environment Problems and Use of Clean Energy, in addition to displaying Scientific Projects and Innovations. The Conference indeed is considered a Scientific Research Platform for publishing and exchanging the latest information, innovations and products of Renewable Energy among Researchers, Academics, Governmental Institutions, Research Centres, all together with Companies specialized in the Infrastructure of Clean and Renewable Energy.
It is noteworthy that our College Dean has taken his guests into a tour through the Conference Exhibition where a number of advanced projects have been displayed, including Hydrogen Cells, an Absorptive Refrigerator, a Solar Air Conditioner, in addition to Postgraduate Students’ Projects representing Iraqi Universities, with what has been displayed by the Department of Electricity and Renewable Energies, related to the Efficient Use of Solar Cells to generate Electricity.
Three prominent Academic Personalities have delivered their lectures on the First Day of the Conference, and they are listed as below:
1. Prof. Dr. Kamaruzzaman Sopian, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Malaysia
Title of his Lecture: “Advances in Solar Assisted Air Conditioning Systems”

In his lecture, Prof Sopian has talked about the applications of Solar Energy in Cooling and Air Conditioning Systems, as well as the Use of Modern Technologies to reduce the Consumption of Electrical Energy, referring at the same time to the most important innovations that have been accomplished by Researchers on Solar Energy in the State of Malaysia

2. Prof. Dr. Alaa Hassan, Technical Research Centre of Finland, Finland
Title of his Lecture: "Energy Flexible Buildings "
In his lecture, Prof. Dr. Alaa Hassan has talked about Renewable Energy Applications in Flexible Buildings, and how to increase the Efficiency of Energy, and meanwhile rationalizing its consumption through the use of advanced and modern technologies in the Field of Renewable Energy Systems.

3. Associate Prof. Dr. Hussein Kadhim Al-Wa’ili, Faculty of Engineering, Sohar University, Sohar, Oman
Title of his lecture: “Renewable Energy and Its Role in Supporting Economic Development”
In his lecture, Prof Dr. Al-Wa’ili has reviewed the most important projects in the Field of Renewable & Solar Energy that have been implemented in Oman, focusing on the University Vision regarding the applications of Renewable Energies and their importance in supporting society, in addition to their essential role in reducing Environmental Pollution.

We are obliged to note that Assist. Prof. Dr. Azhar M. Abid, Chairman of the Conference Preparatory Committee and Head of Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Engineering Department, has summarized the data related to the Conference Activities, stating that the total number of the Research Papers submitted to the Conference has amounted to 40 Papers, 22 of them have been accepted in various topics, whereas the number of participating projects and innovations has reached 75.
It should be noted as well that 7 Keynote Speakers have participated with their lectures during the two days of the Conference. These Speakers do come from different Countries, including Malaysia, U.K., Finland, Sultanate of Oman, and Iraq.
Besides, Three Scientific Sessions have been convened to discuss the 16 Research Papers submitted to the Conference, which have covered different fields, such as Solar Energy, Rationalization of Electricity Consumption, Wind Energies, Sustainable Buildings, all together with the Use of Materials to Reduce Emissions and Increase Thermal Insulation in Buildings.
Finally, we should confirm the non-deniable fact that Al-Mustaqbal University College has been one of the Pioneering Institutions in promoting and applying Sustainable & Clean Energy, with its constant efforts to provide alternative sources of energy.
