Medical Laboratories Department Organizes a Forum on the Impact of Diabetes

Under the guardianship of Prof. Dr. Hasan Shakir Majdi, Dean of Al-Mustaqbal University College, and on the occasion of World Diabetes Day, which coincides on 14th November of every year, the Medical Laboratories Department of Al-Mustaqbal University College, and in cooperation with Babylon Health Department, has organized a Forum addressing the Impact of Diabetes on the Members of Community. The Forum has been under the slogan
“Let us make Future Sweet, but with no Sugar”
It is remarkable to note that the Forum is deemed part of the Program that aims to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals, specifically, SDG 3, the one that focuses on Good Health & Well-Being, and it was convened on Monday morning, 14th November, 2022.
The Forum has included several issues. First of all, there has been a Symposium, in which three lectures have been delivered by
1. Dr. Fadhil Al-Sultani, Head of Marjan Hospital
2. Dr. Hamid Majeed Abdul Ameer Al-Sayid Thahab, Head of Diabetes Center
3. Dr. Huda Fadhil Farhoud, Specialized in Nutrition & Health Community Medicine
These three lectures have been focusing on types of diabetes, statistical numbers of diabetic people, and the most effective treatments. The Symposium has been concluded with a number of recommendations, including the joint cooperation with the Health Department in the field of research.
Secondly, the Forum has hosted the Pediatric Diabetes Association, where its Head, Ms. Lina Al-Shimmeri, has talked about the sufferings of diabetic children, and their need for a special social care, and meanwhile, appealing to concerned authorities to pay more attention and care to children with diabetes of first type.
We are obliged to note as well that an exhibit for pharmaceutical companies has been arranged in the Forum as it is quite necessary for everybody to get acquainted with the latest developments in the treatment of diabetes. Below are the companies that have participated in the Exhibit:

3. Philadelphia Pharmaceuticals
Furthermore, an Awareness Campaign has been arranged in the College to familiarize students with diabetes, and the precautions that shall be taken to prevent or reduce its dangers. A brochure on diabetes and periodical check-ups has been distributed to guests, students and other community institutions. In addition to that, a workshop has been organized where Dr. Haidar Hamza Al-Shraifi, a Specialist in Clinical Chemistry, has been invited as a Lecturer & a Trainer to explain and clarify the most important tests for Diabetes. Finally, free check-ups have been conducted for people with diabetes in order to measure their sugar level using the latest devices available in the College Laboratories.
At the end of the Forum, Prof. Dr. Hasan Shakir Majdi, Dean of Al-Mustaqbal University College has distributed Shields & Certificates of Appreciation to all participators.
