As part of Al-Mustaqbal University's commitment to promoting academic engagement, encouraging scientific participation, and expanding knowledge across different scientific disciplines, Prof. Dr. Nasser Abdul Hassan Nasser, Head of the Department of Biochemistry at the College of Science, participated in a scientific seminar entitled "Criminal Weapons and Their Role in Forensic Evidence." The seminar addressed important scientific and practical aspects related to criminal weapons and instruments, their significance in criminal investigations, and the role of physical and scientific evidence in identifying the circumstances surrounding criminal incidents. The seminar discussed several important topics concerning the nature and significance of forensic evidence in establishing facts and supporting investigative procedures. Particular attention was given to the scientific methods used to examine traces and residues collected from crime scenes, as well as the contribution of modern technologies and specialized expertise to the analysis and interpretation of forensic findings. It also highlighted the importance of integrating applied sciences with legal and forensic disciplines, emphasizing how interdisciplinary collaboration can improve investigative procedures and enhance the reliability and accuracy of laboratory findings. The participation of the Head of the Department of Biochemistry reflects the close relationship between biochemical and chemical sciences and the field of forensic investigations. Chemical and laboratory analyses play a significant role in identifying substances and compounds in forensic samples, examining chemical and biological traces, and providing scientific information that may contribute to the interpretation of criminal evidence. These applications demonstrate the importance of employing specialized scientific knowledge in forensic investigations while encouraging academic professionals to remain informed about recent developments in laboratory techniques and analytical technologies. Furthermore, this participation supports Al-Mustaqbal University's commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, by promoting continuous learning, scientific awareness, and the development of academic knowledge; SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, through highlighting the importance of scientific evidence in supporting justice, strengthening legal institutions, and contributing to reliable investigative procedures; and SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, by emphasizing the role of modern scientific technologies and laboratory innovations in advancing forensic applications. This scientific engagement reflects the Department of Biochemistry's continued interest in strengthening academic communication, encouraging interdisciplinary knowledge exchange, and benefiting from specialized scientific events. Such participation provides valuable opportunities to explore emerging scientific developments, broaden professional perspectives, and enhance the contribution of academic institutions to scientific advancement and community service.
