In observance of the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction—marked annually on October 13th—the College of Education at Al-Mustaqbal University, through a collaboration between the Department of Educational and Psychological Sciences and the Department of English, held an educational and awareness-raising seminar titled **"Psychological First Aid and Crisis Mitigation Mechanisms."** The event featured contributions from Professor Dr. Sahira Qahtan, Assistant Lecturer Ruqaya Wahab, and Assistant Lecturer Mohammed Obeid Zabar. The seminar highlighted the importance of psychological preparedness for facing crises and disasters. It emphasized that the impact of such events is not limited to material losses or damage to infrastructure; rather, it extends to the mental well-being of individuals and communities. Consequently, building psychological resilience and enhancing adaptability are essential pillars for an effective response to crises. The seminar clarified the concept of psychological first aid in accordance with the guidelines of the World Health Organization (WHO), introducing the **"Look, Listen, Link"** framework as a fundamental approach for providing initial psychological support. Furthermore, the session explored mechanisms for the psychological protection of students—across various age groups—during crises and disasters, as well as strategies to mitigate their psychological and social repercussions. The seminar concluded with a set of recommendations aimed at fostering a culture of psychological prevention and aligning it with the Sustainable Development Goals. These recommendations include conducting field-based training workshops that simulate crises and disasters, expanding partnerships between educational and healthcare institutions, and strengthening the role of educational counselors within schools and universities. Such measures are intended to enhance psychological preparedness, develop skills for managing personal, familial, and social crises, and build a more resilient society—one capable of confronting challenges and overcoming their impact.
