To promote environmental awareness and engineer sustainable solutions, the Department of Fuel and Energy Engineering Technologies at the Technical Engineering College, Al-Mustaqbal University, organized an inspiring scientific activity titled "Transforming Waste into Energy" on October 24, 2026, under the supervision of Assistant Lecturer Amani Mahmood Abd-Muslim.
The initiative focused on expanding academic consciousness regarding waste recovery and its conversion into alternative energy sources, highlighting the power of modern engineering technologies in pollution mitigation and sustainable development. As part of the event, students participated in an applied scientific competition to calculate potential energy yields from campus waste streams, strengthening their analytical skills and bridging theoretical engineering knowledge with actionable environmental solutions. The event concluded with presenting certificates of appreciation to winning students in recognition of their creativity.
This initiative serves as a practical contribution toward Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) by combining theoretical study with applied problem-solving, Goal 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) by exploring alternative renewable energy pathways, and Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) by fostering efficient waste management and resource recovery practices.
The activity sparked immense enthusiasm and competitive drive among participating students, who displayed high technical competence and dedication to environmental stewardship.
This effort reinforces the department and university's dedication to nurturing young talent, embedding sustainability principles, and preparing future engineers to build a cleaner, greener tomorrow.
