The Department of Media at the College of Arts and Humanities at Al-Mustaqbal University organised an awareness workshop on Sunday, 11 October 2026, for third-year students in the Department of English Language, entitled “Cyberblackmail: Causes, Effects, and Remedies”. The workshop was delivered by Assistant Lecturer Numas Athab Khafif Al-Khalidi from the Department of Media and Assistant Lecturer Zainab Hakim Musa Al-Hasnawi from the Department of English Language, with the aim of strengthening digital awareness and helping students avoid becoming victims of cybercrime. The workshop examined the main causes and illegal methods used by perpetrators of cyberblackmail. It also identified common mistakes users make while browsing websites and interacting on social media platforms that may expose them to such crimes. In addition, the workshop highlighted the negative psychological and social consequences of cyberblackmail and outlined appropriate ways to protect privacy and personal data. The workshop concluded with interactive discussions and positive feedback from students, who appreciated the practical recommendations presented to promote safe and responsible use of the digital environment. This activity forms part of the Department of Media’s strategy at Al-Mustaqbal University to promote digital literacy and empower students to overcome the challenges posed by today’s technological environment.
