Dr. Ahmed Hani Naif, a faculty member in the Department of English Language and Literature at the College of Arts, Al-Mustaqbal University, has published an instructional academic article entitled:
"Active Language Learning / Reading skill".
The article highlights the significance of reading as an active and ubiquitous method for learning the English language, emphasizing that learners must transition into active readers who critically engage with texts rather than passively absorbing them.
The study outlines three core practical techniques to help learners enhance their reading comprehension and retention:
Predict Before You Read: Utilizing titles, illustrations, and paragraph opening lines during a brief preview phase to prime the brain and anticipate text content.
Interact with the Text While Reading: Employing highlighting and marginalia to mark unfamiliar vocabulary, identify main ideas, and jot down brief notes or paragraph summaries in the margins.
Summarize and Retell After Reading: Strengthening memory and speaking proficiency by writing concise notebook summaries or verbally retelling the text aloud using newly acquired vocabulary and recalled concepts.
