Art Therapy and Its Role in Psychiatric Rehabilitation Mental healthcare is no longer limited to medications and traditional therapy sessions. Modern approaches have emerged to help patients express their feelings in different ways, one of the most prominent of which is art therapy. This approach is considered a supportive method in psychiatric rehabilitation, as it uses drawing, coloring, and artistic activities to help individuals express thoughts and emotions that may be difficult for them to describe in words. Art therapy can help reduce stress and anxiety, improve concentration and self-confidence, and provide patients with a safe space to express their feelings without fear or judgment. It can be incorporated into rehabilitation programs for individuals experiencing certain mental health disorders or difficult psychological circumstances, alongside primary medical and psychological treatment. The importance of this approach lies in its holistic view of the patient. It does not focus solely on the illness but also considers the individual’s abilities, talents, and relationship with the community. Through regular artistic activities, patients can be encouraged to interact and participate, as well as regain some of their daily and social skills. In conclusion, art therapy represents a supportive, humane, and creative approach to medical and psychological treatment. It can add a different dimension to rehabilitation programs, particularly when implemented under the supervision of qualified specialists and as part of a comprehensive treatment plan.
