The transition from a rentier economy to a productive economy cannot be achieved without establishing genuine partnerships between universities and the private sector. Universities should not limit their role to preparing graduates in accordance with academic knowledge requirements; rather, they should contribute to developing professionals equipped with the skills demanded by the actual labor market.
Such partnerships are particularly important in Iraq, where the private sector can serve as a partner in training, employment, innovation, project financing, and entrepreneurship support, while universities provide knowledge, scientific research, and qualified human resources. Through internships, joint projects, consultancy services, and business incubators, university knowledge can be transformed into economic value and tangible employment opportunities.
In this context, the disciplines of Marketing Management, Banking and Finance, Accounting, and Business Administration at the College of Administrative Sciences, Al-Mustaqbal University, can play an important role in supplying the private sector with qualified professionals capable of managing projects, analyzing markets, managing financial resources, enhancing transparency, improving organizational performance, and supporting effective decision-making.
The partnership between universities and the private sector is not merely an administrative or training-oriented collaboration; rather, it constitutes an integral component of a comprehensive economic policy that connects education with production, skills with employment opportunities, and scientific research with market needs. When the private sector becomes a partner in developing skills rather than merely a consumer of graduates, the university becomes a driver of development, while education evolves from a pathway to obtaining a degree into an investment in human capital, productivity, and employment opportunities.
