In his latest academic publication, Assistant Professor Dr. Maamoon Sami Salih explores the theoretical and aesthetic role of postmodern theater in dismantling anti-Muslim stereotypes in the United States, particularly in the post-9/11 era. Dr. Maamoon Sami illustrates how mainstream Western discourse and media restricted Muslim communities within narrow labels and a reductive terrorist-victim dichotomy. He emphasizes that these challenging circumstances spurred prominent Muslim-American playwrights, notably Ayad Akhtar and Wajahat Ali, to utilize postmodern dramatic approaches to amplify marginalized voices, challenge rigid representations, and construct a more nuanced perspective on the Muslim diaspora within contemporary American drama.
