The President of Al-Mustaqbal University, Professor Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi, participated in the IAU-EAIE Internationalisation Leadership Dialogue, held at the Sir Jim McDonald Centre for Technology and Innovation at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, United Kingdom. His participation came at the invitation of the International Association of Universities (IAU) and the European Association for International Education (EAIE).
The event opened with welcoming remarks from the host university, followed by addresses from the Secretary General of the International Association of Universities, Dr. Hilligje van’t Land, and the Executive Director of the European Association for International Education, Mr. Mervyn Baker. The dialogue featured discussions on internationalisation and higher education strategies amid current global challenges, alongside an exchange of experiences among presidents and leaders of higher education institutions from around the world.
The dialogue included a keynote lecture entitled “Leading Internationalisation in Turbulent Times,” delivered by Sir Anton Muscatelli, President of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. He presented the VUCA Prime leadership model for managing institutions through vision, understanding, clarity, and agility, in addition to providing an analysis of recent data and statistics on global trends in international student recruitment.
Professor Dr. Hassan Shakir Majdi also participated in dialogue sessions and roundtable discussions addressing the future of partnerships, mechanisms for selecting partners, joint academic programs, and the role of artificial intelligence in learning and academic mobility. The dialogue also featured bilateral meetings between the President of Al-Mustaqbal University and the Secretary General of the International Association of Universities, during which he presented her with a commemorative gift reflecting Iraq’s heritage and civilization, while discussing prospects for future academic and research partnerships.
