Drawing on her personal experience of learning Persian and living in a Persian-speaking environment, the lecturer, Tabarak Aqeel Dawood, raises a question that may appear simple at first but leads to a deeper reflection on the nature of language learning: Is knowing a language enough to truly feel it and use it naturally? The article begins with a contrast the author experienced personally. Despite years of studying English and acquiring extensive knowledge of its vocabulary and grammatical rules, her spoken use of the language was not always as easy or spontaneous as the experience she later began to notice with Persian, even though her knowledge of Persian was considerably more limited. Through daily interaction with native speakers, certain expressions gradually began to emerge more naturally. Recognizing tone and rhythm, as well as choosing the appropriate expression for a particular situation, sometimes occurred before consciously thinking about grammatical rules or translation. From this perspective, the article explores the difference between knowing a language and feeling it. It discusses how the linguistic environment and authentic interaction can contribute to developing what the author refers to as a “Situated Language Sense”: the ability to understand not only what to say, but also when to say it, to whom, how, and why. The article also addresses the concept of “Interactional Immersion,” emphasizing that language learning is not determined solely by geographical location, but rather by the extent to which the language is present in our daily interactions and by our genuine need to use it. Ultimately, the article calls for reconsidering the way we view language learning and teaching. It encourages a shift away from an exclusive focus on memorizing vocabulary and grammatical rules toward creating authentic linguistic experiences that enable learners not merely to know a language, but to live it, experience it, and gradually begin to feel it. Perhaps the most important question the article leaves for the reader is: Do we learn a language simply when we study it, or when it becomes part of our lives?
