Professor Dr. Hassan Shakir Majid, President of Al-Mustaqbal University, led an official delegation that included Assistant Professor Dr. Ali Shakir Majid, Dean of the College of Engineering, to participate in the 12th International Workshop on UI GreenMetric World University Rankings for Sustainable Universities (IWGM 2026). The workshop was hosted by the Birkenfeld Environmental Campus of Trier University of Applied Sciences in the Federal Republic of Germany from August 24 to 26, with the participation of university leaders, academics, and international experts. The meeting addressed ways to strengthen international communication and exchange expertise in the fields of university sustainability, green infrastructure, resource, energy, water and waste management, sustainable transportation, education, and scientific research. The German environmental campus hosting the event ranks first nationally and fourth globally in sustainability, making it a leading international model. During the participation, the university delegation met with Dr. Vishnu Juno, President of the UI GreenMetric Organization, where the delegation presented Al-Mustaqbal University’s experience and initiatives in developing a sustainable campus. The delegation also presented the university’s shield to the organization’s president in recognition of his international efforts. In addition, appreciation shields were presented to Professor Dr. Dorit Schumann, President of Trier University of Applied Sciences, and Professor Dr. Klaus Helling, Dean of the Faculty of Environmental Economics and Law, in recognition of their efforts in organizing the workshop. This international participation is part of Al-Mustaqbal University’s strategy to strengthen its global partnerships, improve its performance in sustainability indicators, and benefit from leading international experiences.
