It also plays an essential role in supporting the economy and achieving social stability. With the increasing population, changing climatic conditions, declining water resources, and decreasing availability of arable land, it has become necessary to adopt modern and sustainable agricultural practices that ensure food production while preserving natural resources. Concept of Sustainable Agriculture Sustainable agriculture refers to a set of agricultural practices aimed at maintaining continuous agricultural production while conserving soil, water, and biodiversity. It relies on the rational use of resources and reducing the negative impacts resulting from the excessive use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides. Importance of Sustainable Agriculture Sustainable agriculture contributes to improving water-use efficiency, enhancing soil fertility, reducing environmental pollution, and preserving biodiversity. It also helps farmers reduce production costs by adopting modern technologies and using resources more efficiently. Modern Agricultural Technologies The agricultural sector has witnessed significant development as a result of the integration of technology and artificial intelligence. Among the most important modern technologies are smart agriculture, drip irrigation, hydroponics, remote sensing, agricultural drones, and smart crop monitoring systems. These technologies help determine plants’ requirements for water and fertilizers, monitor crop growth, and detect diseases and pests at early stages. The Role of Agriculture in Addressing Climate Change Sustainable agriculture can contribute to mitigating the effects of climate change by improving soil and water management, cultivating plant species that are more tolerant of drought and high temperatures, and using renewable energy sources in agricultural operations. Increasing vegetation cover and conserving soil also contribute to carbon sequestration and reducing land degradation. Conclusion The development of the agricultural sector is no longer based solely on increasing production quantities; rather, it is increasingly linked to achieving a balance between agricultural production and the conservation of the environment and natural resources. Therefore, adopting sustainable agricultural practices and modern technologies represents an important step toward achieving food security and building an agricultural sector capable of addressing future challenges.
