Al-Mustaqbal University, in line with the strategic directions of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to develop the research system and strengthen international presence, achieved unprecedented results in 2026 by securing Iraq’s first historic success in the “Jean Monnet” activities of the European Union programme through its distinguished project titled (EU-One Health), focusing on European Union policies in the field of health. The officially announced results marked a major leap for Iraqi educational institutions in the areas of Capacity Building in Higher Education (CBHE) and “Jean Monnet” activities. The results included the selection of two Capacity Building projects: the first, a regional project titled (DPP-Eng), with the participation of the University of Technology, aimed at developing digital economy and artificial intelligence engineering; and the second, an inter-regional project titled (DigiResilience), with the participation of the Universities of Nineveh and Samarra, representing the first project of its kind to open broader international horizons. The year 2026 witnessed the breaking of Iraq’s international research stagnation in this field since 2020, culminating in a historic achievement as only two Iraqi universities won “Jean Monnet” activities at the national level. Al-Turath University secured the (TRUST-EU) project focusing on European Union law and artificial intelligence, while Al-Mustaqbal University took the lead with its advanced global health project. This outstanding outcome reflects the success of the academic roadmap overseen by the Department of Scholarships and Cultural Relations under the patronage of the Deputy Minister for Scientific Research, which is steadily working to strengthen the presence of Iraqi universities in the global research arena and transform international partnerships into sustainable institutional projects that elevate Iraq’s standing in international forums.
