Al-Mustaqbal University has won funding for a research and educational project under the “Jean Monnet” awards and projects of the Erasmus+ Programme, officially announced by the European Union. This achievement reflects the distinguished presence of Iraqi academia on the international stage. This achievement represents a significant milestone in the higher education sector, as it marks the first time an Iraqi university has received this prestigious grant, securing 100% direct funding from the European Commission to implement its academic project titled “One Health in EU Policy: Implications for Medical and Health Practice.” This historic achievement came after more than four years of dedicated efforts and continuous follow-up, during which Iraqi universities made significant progress in international cooperation, beginning with exploring Erasmus programmes and establishing specialized scientific and administrative Erasmus units within educational institutions, and eventually advancing to international competition and securing full European funding. On this occasion, the university expressed its sincere gratitude and appreciation to the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, highly commending the unlimited support and exceptional, continuous efforts of the Deputy Minister for Research and Development, Prof. Dr. Haider Abdul Dhahad, the Director General of the Department of Scholarships and Cultural Relations, Prof. Dr. Hazem Baqir Taher, and the Director of the Department of International Organizations, Dr. Muwaffaq Sajit. Their support for scientific workshops and intensive training courses played a major role in building academic capacities and achieving this outstanding accomplishment. Winning the “Jean Monnet” grant represents a strategic milestone that confirms the ability of Iraqi educational institutions to enter the global academic arena and compete with competence and distinction.
