M.m. Raed Jawad Kadhim, a faculty member at the College of Science, Al-Mustaqbal University, highlighted the importance of the role of law in confronting extremism and religious intolerance through a scientific article entitled: “How Does the Law Confront Extremism and Religious Intolerance?” In the article, he discussed the most significant legal and social aspects related to these phenomena and their impact on societal stability.
The lecturer explained that extremism and religious intolerance are among the most dangerous phenomena threatening the security and cohesion of societies due to their negative effects in spreading hatred, violence, and social division. He emphasized that the law represents the primary means of protecting human rights and ensuring peaceful coexistence among members of society.
He pointed out that legal legislation contributes to limiting hate speech and incitement to violence by imposing deterrent penalties on acts that threaten social peace or provoke division and conflict, in addition to the important role of educational and cultural institutions in promoting values of tolerance and moderation.
He also noted that confronting extremism is not limited to the legal aspect alone, but requires the combined efforts of society, education, and media, alongside spreading intellectual and cultural awareness among different groups within society, thereby contributing to building a more stable and secure community.
The college presidency affirmed its commitment to supporting intellectual and scientific activities that contribute to spreading social awareness, promoting peaceful coexistence, and rejecting extremism, in line with the university’s mission in serving society and reinforcing humanitarian principles.
This scientific contribution comes as part of the efforts of Al-Mustaqbal University to support intellectual and cultural awareness and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 16 related to peace, justice, and strong institutions.
