As part of its vision to support sustainable development goals and promote environmental awareness, Al-Mustaqbal University in Babylon Governorate continues implementing environmental initiatives aimed at expanding green spaces and preserving plant diversity across the university campus through the development of its plant propagation nurseries. The central nurseries have witnessed an extensive development campaign carried out by the technical staff of the Department of Diwan Affairs – Agricultural Division, with the aim of increasing plant varieties and improving the university environment in line with modern environmental sustainability standards. The nurseries include thousands of diverse plants, including trees, shrubs, seasonal flowers, and perennial plants, in addition to efforts dedicated to propagating rare plant species and preserving declining plants within the Iraqi environment. These efforts contribute to supporting biodiversity and strengthening vegetation cover throughout the campus. Through these initiatives, the university also seeks to improve the quality of the campus environment by increasing green areas and reducing environmental impacts, while creating an aesthetic landscape that reflects the institution’s cultural and environmental identity. These efforts come within Al-Mustaqbal University’s commitment to implementing sustainability standards, enhancing its presence in international rankings related to sustainable universities, including the UI GreenMetric ranking, while also promoting environmental awareness among students and the university community. The university affirmed that afforestation projects and nursery development represent an integral part of its academic and social mission to build a sustainable educational environment that serves society and preserves natural resources for future generations.
