The Educational and Psychological Counseling Committee in the Department of Prosthetics and Orthotics Engineering organized a seminar titled The Psychological Impact of Using Prosthetic Limbs for Amputees, conducted by Assistant Lecturer Maryam Ghassan Ghaffar and Engineer Aya Talib Hassan on 20/4/2026, with the participation of department students as preparation for the upcoming summer training. The seminar addressed the psychological aspects associated with the use of prosthetic limbs among amputees and emphasized the importance of understanding the patient’s psychological state and its role in the success of rehabilitation and adaptation to prosthetic devices. It also highlighted key challenges such as anxiety, loss of self-confidence, and difficulty in adaptation, along with ways to manage them through integrated psychological and rehabilitative support. This activity comes as part of the committee’s efforts to prepare students academically and psychologically for their summer training, in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being), by strengthening awareness of the human aspect in rehabilitation work. The seminar witnessed notable engagement, reflecting the importance of integrating scientific knowledge with psychological understanding in the field of prosthetics.
