The English Department at the College of Education, Al-Mustaqbal University, witnessed a remarkable student activity reflecting deep literary insight and artistic talent. Second-stage student Muna Hadeer Abbas presented a series of creative drawings, visually interpreting the masterpiece short stories within the academic curriculum. Her artwork masterfully depicted Ernest Hemingway's The Old Man and the Sea, illustrating the legendary struggle of the Cuban fisherman "Santiago" against the giant Marlin—a journey proving that a man can be destroyed but not defeated. Additionally, she explored the dark themes of Edgar Allan Poe’s The Black Cat, effectively capturing the psychological descent into madness and guilt, leading to the dramatic revelation of the crime. This activity is part of the department’s efforts to encourage students to integrate visual arts with literary analysis. Such initiatives enrich the educational experience, transforming written texts into vivid imagery that enhances the profound understanding of global classical literature.
