The Media Department at the College of Arts and Humanities, Al-Mustaqbal University, held a qualitative workshop titled "The Role of Media in Confronting Cultural Invasion" today, Saturday, April 25, 2026. The session aimed to highlight the challenges facing national identity in the age of digital globalization, with active participation from academics and students. Presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Hamza Abais Al-Janabi and Lecturer Dr. Mundhir Ali Ahmed, the workshop addressed the concept of cultural invasion in its various dimensions. The lecturers reviewed five key levels: linguistic, value-based, consumerist, cognitive, and identity-related. They focused on the pivotal role of media as both a weapon and a target within this cultural confrontation. The researchers presented practical mechanisms to confront this invasion, most notably the necessity of producing professional local content and reviving heritage in a modern style that keeps pace with the current generation. They also recommended establishing media monitoring units and intelligently employing influencers, alongside exercising legal pressure on major social media platforms to protect cultural foundations. The hall witnessed a distinguished presence of Media Department faculty, students, and those interested in media awareness. The session opened doors for discussions and interventions that enriched the topic. The lecturers concluded the workshop by emphasizing that "Neutral media in the time of cultural invasion is not neutral; it participates in the invasion through its silence," calling on every media professional to fulfill their role as a "Guardian of Identity" rather than just a news reporter.
